Slip Localization Intensification Mediated by Grain Boundary Sliding in a Polycrystalline Nickel‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The temperature dependence of fatigue behavior in nickel‐based superalloys is investigated through high‐resolution measurements of plastic localization. While increasing temperature reduces localization and enhances fatigue performance in René 88DT, Inconel 718 exhibits a sharp degradation at intermediate temperature due to intensified slip ...

Energy Criterion for Mode II Fracture in Ceramics

open access: yesJournal of the Ceramic Society of Japan, 1998
The Griffith energy criterion for brittle fracture is extended to mode II fracture by postulating that crack extension occurs when the maximum energy release rate in non-coplanar crack extension is equal to the fracture energy rate required for mode II crack extension. This fracture energy rate is considered to be proportional to the critical magnitude

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

Numerical and experimental investigation of the influence of temperature and grain size on the fracture behavior of rock

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
Understanding the fracture behavior of rocks subjected to temperature and accounting for the rock's texture is vital for safe and efficient design. Prior studies have often focused on isolated aspects of rock fracture behavior, neglecting the combined ...

Ⅰ-Ⅱ MIXED-MODE FRACTURE PROPERTY OF 2D-C/SIC COMPOSITES (MT)

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2023
In order to characterize the Ⅰ-Ⅱ mixed-mode fracture performance of 2D-C/SiC composites, Arcan butterfly specimens with unilateral cracks were used, and the mode-Ⅰ and mode-Ⅱ fracture shape factors of the specimen were calibrated through finite element ...
