Mixed-Mode Pandemic Modeling [PDF]
This paper describes a mixed mode approach to simulating a global pandemic. It describes the architectural and design decisions as well as the data sources, development tools and processes in each of the three simulation domains - System Dynamics (SD), Discrete Event Simulation (DES) and Agent-Based Modeling (ABM). The encompassing model uses a network

RGB generation by four-wave mixing in small-core holey fibers [PDF]
We report the generation of white light comprising red, green, and blue spectral bands from a frequency-doubled fiber laser by an efficient four-wave mixing process in submicron-sized cores of microstructured holey fibers.

Causes and classification of EMD mode mixing [PDF]
At present, the lack of insight into the problem of mode mixing in Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) hinders the development of solutions to the problem.

Rayleigh-Taylor mixing: confinement by stratification and geometry
Rayleigh-Taylor instability has been an area of active research in fluid dynamics for the last twenty years, but relatively little attention has been paid to the dynamics of problems where Rayleigh-Taylor instability plays a role, but is only one ...

[Multilingualism and Mixed-Mode Communication
Like other disciplines, the field of sociolinguistics is not a homogenous one. It rather comes in three “loosely connected waves” (Eckert 2012) with each wave applying specific sets of methods. How can we use methodological triangulation and combine these methods, both quantitative and qualitative in nature, to integrate the three waves of ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Decomposition of nonlinear, nonstationary multicomponent signals remains challenging for existing decomposition strategies, including frequency-based, data-driven, and subspace methods, which can suffer from mode mixing, leakage across components, and ...

Predicting bulk powder flow dynamics in a continuous mixer operating in transitory regimes [PDF]
Over recent years there has been increasing interest in continuous powder mixing processes, due mainly to the development of on-line measurement techniques.

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
