A Topic-Agnostic Approach for Identifying Fake News Pages

open access: yes, 2019
Fake news and misinformation have been increasingly used to manipulate popular opinion and influence political processes. To better understand fake news, how they are propagated, and how to counter their effect, it is necessary to first identify them ...

Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning for Relation Classification with Limited Supervision [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 57th Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics, 2019
In this paper we frame the task of supervised relation classification as an instance of meta-learning. We propose a model-agnostic meta-learning protocol for training relation classifiers to achieve enhanced predictive performance in limited supervision settings.

Upsampling DINOv2 Features for Unsupervised Vision Tasks and Weakly Supervised Materials Segmentation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Feature from recent image foundation models (DINOv2) are useful for vision tasks (segmentation, object localization) with little or no human input. Once upsampled, they can be used for weakly supervised micrograph segmentation, achieving strong results when compared to classical features (blurs, edge detection) across a range of material systems.

Medical students' initial experiences of the dissection room and interaction with body donors: A qualitative study of professional identity formation, educational benefits, and the experience of Pasifika students

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract The first experience of medical students in the dissecting room (DR) likely influences professional identity formation (PIF). Sparse data exist exploring how exposure to the DR and body donors without undertaking dissection influences PIF, or how culture may influence this experience.

On the Global Optimality of Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning

open access: yes, 2020
Model-agnostic meta-learning (MAML) formulates meta-learning as a bilevel optimization problem, where the inner level solves each subtask based on a shared prior, while the outer level searches for the optimal shared prior by optimizing its aggregated performance over all the subtasks.

Data, not documents: Moving beyond theories of information‐seeking behavior to advance data discovery

open access: yesJournal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, Volume 76, Issue 4, Page 649-664, April 2025.
Abstract Many theories of human information behavior (HIB) assume that information objects are in text document format. This paper argues four important HIB theories are insufficient for describing users' search strategies for data because of assumptions about the attributes of objects that users seek.

Edge-Based Meta-ICP Algorithm for Reliable Camera Pose Estimation

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Camera pose estimation is crucial for 3D surface reconstruction and augmented reality applications. For systems equipped with RGB-D sensors, the corresponding transformation between frames can be effectively estimated using the iterative closest point ...
