Comprehensive Analysis of Neural Network Inference on Embedded Systems: Response Time, Calibration, and Model Optimisation

open access: yesSensors
The response time of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) inference is critical in embedded systems processing sensor data close to the source. This is particularly important in applications such as predictive maintenance, which rely on timely state change ...

3D‐Printed Giant Magnetoresistive (GMR) Sensors Based on Self Compliant Springs

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores 3D‐printed GMR sensors utilizing self‐compliant spring structures and conductive PLA composites. By optimizing arm width, we achieved high piezoresistive (0.34%/mm) and magnetoresistive (0.77%/mT) sensitivities. Demonstrated through Bluetooth‐integrated pressure and magnetic position sensing, these full printed low‐cost, customizable

Optimizing Soil Moisture‐Runoff Coupling Strength With Remotely Sensed Soil Moisture for Improved Hydrological Modeling

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Hydrological models are typically calibrated using historical ground‐based streamflow observations to constrain model uncertainty. However, such a calibration strategy can lead to unrealistic model parameters and is not applicable in data‐sparse regions ...

Common Calibration of Solar Radiation and Net Longwave Radiation Is the Key to Accurately Estimating Reference Crop Evapotranspiration over the Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Reference crop evapotranspiration (ET0) is crucial for water management. Although the FAO56-PM method is widely used to estimate ET0, its input variables of solar radiation (Rs) and net longwave radiation (Rnl) are not readily available.

Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Test and Evaluation of AI/ML Enhanced Digital Twin

open access: yesSystems
A Digital Twin (DT) is not just a collection of static digital models at the component level of a physical system, but a dynamic entity that evolves in parallel with the physical system it mirrors.

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.
