Bounded Obstructions, Model Companions and Amalgamation Bases
Mathematical Logic Quarterly, 1988We look at a classification of model companions of locally finite universal classes which is based on the behavior of obstructions to the amalgamation property. Then we show how such obstructions are related to the amalgamation class being an elementary class.

The Model Companion of Width-Two Orders
Order, 1997Let \(W_n\) denote the universal class of all width-\(n\) orders. Building on work of Pouzet the authors prove that the class of existentially closed members of \(W_2\), \(W^{\text{ec}}_2\), is a first-order class. In fact for \(A\in W_2\), \(A\in W^{\text{ec}}_2\) if and only if \(A\) is a linear sum of d-homogeneous width-2 orders.

Personality model for a companion AIBO
Proceedings of the 2005 ACM SIGCHI International Conference on Advances in computer entertainment technology, 2005In this paper we describe the architecture that allows the modeling of an emotionally intelligent robot. We chose to implement these architectures on AIBO, which is a quadruped autonomous robot, developed by Sony. AIBO was developed as an entertainment robot with its "mind" resident on a memory stick.

Modelling Empathy in Social Robotic Companions
2012Empathy can be broadly defined as the ability to understand and respond appropriately to the affective states of others. In this paper, we present a scenario where a social robot acts as a chess companion for children, and describe our current efforts towards endowing such robot with empathic capabilities.
