Long‐term disdrometer observations are utilized to derive Z–R relationships for ‐the Western Pacific tropical cyclones. A hybrid moment‐based approach is employed to determine the interrelationships among pairs of gamma distribution parameters. Enhanced estimates of rainfall rate and slope parameter are obtained using machine‐learning techniques ...

Many studies now provide evidence of weather and climate effects on human migration, but only few have attempted to project the impact of future climate change, or attribute the impact of past climate change, on global migration patterns. Here we compare

Aircraft based four-channel thermal dissociation laser induced fluorescence instrument for simultaneous measurements of NO2, total peroxy nitrate, total alkyl nitrate, and HNO3 [PDF]
A four-channel thermal dissociation laser induced fluorescence (TD-LIF) instrument has been developed for simultaneous measurements of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), total peroxy nitrate (∑PNs), total alkyl nitrate (∑ANs) and nitric acid (HNO3). NO2 is measured

Thermodynamic and microphysical properties of summertime marine fog observed from Sable Island
Atmospheric profiling and near‐surface fog and visibility measurements revealed synoptic‐scale forcing as the dominant factor in fog formation over Sable Island, with deep fog layers under low‐pressure systems and shallow fog layers under high‐pressure systems.

Global hydrological models continue to overestimate river discharge
Global hydrological models (GHMs) are widely used to assess the impact of climate change on streamflow, floods, and hydrological droughts. For the ‘model evaluation and impact attribution’ part of the current round of the Inter-Sectoral Impact Model ...

Medicane characteristics from high‐resolution satellite radar observations
This study uses high‐resolution observations from satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) to reveal that medicanes, cyclones with tropical features in the Mediterranean basin, have dynamical characteristics with attributes comparable with those of tropical cyclones of similar intensities, but smaller outer sizes and Rossby numbers.

Intercomparison of single-column models for GABLS3: preliminary results [PDF]
The GEWEX Atmospheric Boundary-Layer Study (GABLS) focus on the representation of stable boundary layers in atmospheric models (Holtslag, 2006). One of the main goals of GABLS is to provide a mondial platform for the atmospheric boundary layer research ...

The predictability of western and eastern North Pacific blocking events is assessed using analogue‐based diagnostics. Eastern blocks exhibit lower predictability, characterized by faster error growth and higher mean logarithmic divergence rates. The study highlights geographical contrasts in blocking stability.

A fast and spatialized urban weather generator for long-term urban studies at the city-scale.
In order to make urban climate predictions at the city-scale and on long term experiment accessible to communities such as building engineers or urban planner, a method to calculate meteorological forcing for surface models is presented.
