2013 6th International Workshop on Requirements Engineering and Law (RELAW), 2013
Nomos is a framework for modelling law-compliant solutions in software system design. It provides a core set of concepts to enable exploring and selecting alternatives in a variability space defined by laws, a graphical notation to visualize models, and tool support for compliance analysis.

Modeling Gestalt laws for classification
9th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics (ICCI'10), 2010The k-nearest neighbors classifier is simple and often results in good classification performance on problems with unknown and non-normal distributions. However, its selected nearest neighbors on noisy, sparse, or imbalanced data are often inconsistent with our intuition and in turn leads to the worse performance.

On Defending The Covering-Law “Model”
PSA: Proceedings of the Biennial Meeting of the Philosophy of Science Association, 1974Hempel in Aspects of Scientific Explanation and Other Essays tells us that “all scientific explanation involves, explicitly or by implication, a subsumption of its subject matter under general regularities; that it seeks to provide a systematic understanding of empirical phenomena by showing that they fit into a nomic nexus.” This I take to be an ...

In this paper, we illustrate how different behavioral problems can be incorporated into the standard economic model of tort law. Through this exercise, we develop a modeling language that can be utilized by law and economic scholars when considering the effect of behavioral biases and cognitive imperfections in tort law.

Mathematical Models for the "Schmalhgausent Law"
Journal of Biological Systems, 2003The empirical formula of growth (decrease) of biological objects, corresponding to polygonal line in double logarithmic scale is discussed. Leslie-type models producing solutions similar to some specific cases of this formula (including logistic-like curve) are studied. As an example, a model of tree stand self-thinning is derived and investigated; the

Evaluation of the models for Bradford's law
Scientometrics, 1998A goodness of fit test is conducted for two models for Bradford's law given byEgghe andSmolkov. The conclusion is that Smolkov's model is of comparatively higher accuracy. Finally the paper points out the necessity of carrying out statistical tests for comparisons more frequently for the new models of Bradford's law in the development of the law in ...

Ontology Modeling for Criminal Law
2018In the continental law system, more attention is paid to judicial interpretation to judge legal facts or actions than judicial precedents. Therefore, in the continental legal system, it is appropriate to express the law itself with knowledge such as legal ontologies or logical rules.
