Angubindin‐1 binds angulin‐1/‐3 at tricellular tight junctions, enhancing intestinal macromolecule permeation. Alanine scanning identified six essential residues (L562, L598, E638, V640, Y643, and K644) of angubindin‐1 critical for binding to angulin‐1/‐3 and permeation‐enhancing activity, providing insights for the development of targeted noninvasive ...

Tardigrades and their emergence as model organisms
Experimentally tractable organisms like C. elegans, Drosophila, zebrafish, and mouse are popular models for addressing diverse questions in biology. In 1997, two of the most valuable invertebrate model organisms to date – C. elegans and Drosophila – were found to be much more closely related to each other than expected. C.

Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG) acutely inhibited gluconeogenesis and enhanced glycolysis, glycogenolysis, and fatty acid oxidation in perfused rat livers. Mechanistic assays revealed mitochondrial uncoupling, inhibition of pyruvate carboxylation and glucose‐6‐phosphatase, shift of NADH/NAD+ ratios toward oxidation, and loss of membrane integrity ...

Sarcosine oxidase from Bacillus sp. (SoxB) recognizes l‐proline (l‐Pro), d‐proline (d‐Pro), and l‐thioproline (l‐Tpr) as minor substrates. In this study, we measured their absorption spectra, determined the crystal structures of their enzyme complexes, and performed site‐directed mutagenesis of key residues.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

When components of an interacting dynamical system (such as organs within an organism, or daisies within the Daisyworld model) have a limited range of viability to changes in some essential variable, intuition suggests that increasing any individual ...

Interplay between RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures in gene regulation
Methodological advances in mapping transcriptome‐wide RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures have started to uncover the potential of RNP conformations in gene regulation. Competing RNA–RNA, RNA‐protein and protein–protein interactions shape the compaction and function of RNPs throughout their lifetime and may provide novel therapeutic targets in ...
