Start-ups as drivers of market mobility: An analysis at the region-sector level for the Netherlands [PDF]
We investigate the impact of start-up rates on a measure of competition among incumbent firms called market mobility. While recent literature suggests that competition among incumbent firms is caused by (lagged) start-up rates, this relation has not yet ...

Modelling and DNA topology of compact 2-start and 1-start chromatin fibres
AbstractWe have investigated the structure of the most compact 30-nm chromatin fibres by modelling those with 2-start or 1-start crossed-linker organisations. Using an iterative procedure we obtained possible structural solutions for fibres of the highest possible compaction permitted by physical constraints, including the helical repeat of linker DNA.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Children’s Schooling and Parents’ Investment in Children: Evidence from the Head Start Impact Study [PDF]
Parents may have important effects on their children, but little work in economics explores whether children's schooling opportunities crowd out or encourage parents' investment in children. We analyze data from the Head Start Impact Study, which granted

Modelling thin film solar cells with graded band gap [PDF]
This paper discusses how graded absorber structures in CIGS-based solar cell can be studied using the numerical simulation tool SCAPS. A model will be built for an AVANCIS solar cell with double grading which is produced with the laboratory line process.

A stochastic cellular automaton model for traffic flow with multiple metastable states
A new stochastic cellular automaton (CA) model of traffic flow, which includes slow-to-start effects and a driver's perspective, is proposed by extending the Burgers CA and the Nagel-Schreckenberg CA model.

The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

Modeling and Simulation of Dual Clutch Joint Start Control of Wet DCT
According to the engagement characteristics of wet clutch, average Reynolds equation and elastic contact model of two rough surfaces are applied to establish a dynamic transfer torque model for wet clutch engagement. Dynamics model of joint start for wet

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Representation Learning for cold-start recommendation
A standard approach to Collaborative Filtering (CF), i.e. prediction of user ratings on items, relies on Matrix Factorization techniques. Representations for both users and items are computed from the observed ratings and used for prediction ...
