Frequency Separation in Architected Structures using Inverse Methods [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied and Computational Mechanics, 2021
A major goal in the design of architected structures for low frequency vibration applications (also called mechanical metamaterials, metastructures, elastic metamaterials, auxetic structures) is the creation of regions in the frequency domain where ...

Centrifugal Test Replicated Numerical Model Updating for 3D Strutted Deep Excavation with the Response-Surface Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Centrifugal tests provide an efficacious experimental process to predict the behavior of deep excavations, and numerical models are indispensable for demonstrating the test results and analyzing the engineering demand parameters.

Finite Element Model Updating for Composite Plate Structures Using Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
In the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, particularly civil engineering, the Finite Element Method (FEM) is a widely applied method for computational designs.

FE Model Updating on an In-Service Self-Anchored Suspension Bridge with Extra-Width Using Hybrid Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
Nowadays, many more bridges with extra-width have been needed for vehicle throughput. In order to obtain a precise finite element (FE) model of those complex bridge structures, the practical hybrid updating method by integration of Gaussian mutation ...

A Novel VBSHM Strategy to Identify Geometrical Damage Properties Using Only Frequency Changes and Damage Library

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Vibration-based structural health monitoring is an efficient way to diagnose damage and structural integrity at the earliest stage. In this paper, a new strategy is developed for damage localization and estimation, as well as damage properties ...

Model Updating of a Freight Wagon Based on Dynamic Tests under Different Loading Scenarios

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
This article presents an efficient methodology for the calibration of a numerical model of a Sgnss freight railway wagon based on experimental modal parameters, namely natural frequencies and mode shapes.

Intermediate‐Mass Stars: Updated Models [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1999
A new set of stellar models in the mass range 1.2 to 9 $M_{\odot}$ is presented. The adopted chemical compositions cover the typical galactic values, namely $0.0001 \le Z \le 0.02$ and $0.23 \le Y \le 0.28$. A comparison among the most recent compilations of similar stellar models is also discussed.

Anomalous scaling in the Zhang model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We apply the moment analysis technique to analyze large scale simulations of the Zhang sandpile model. We find that this model shows different scaling behavior depending on the update mechanism used.

Shape descriptors for mode-shape recognition and model updating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The most widely used method for comparing mode shapes from finite elements and experimental measurements is the Modal Assurance Criterion (MAC), which returns a single numerical value and carries no explicit information on shape features. New techniques,

Experimental Trauma Models: An Update [PDF]

open access: yesBioMed Research International, 2011
Treatment of polytrauma patients remains a medical as well as socioeconomic challenge. Although diagnostics and therapy improved during the last decades, multiple injuries are still the major cause of fatalities in patients below 45 years of age. Organ dysfunction and organ failure are major complications in patients with major injuries and contribute ...
