Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

Introduction to modeling and simulation [PDF]

open access: possibleProceedings of the 2003 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics (IEEE Cat. No.03EX693), 2004
Simulation is a powerful tool for the analysis of new system designs, retrofits to existing systems and proposed changes to operating rules. Conducting a valid simulation is both an art and a science. This paper provides an introduction to simulation and modeling and the main concepts underlying simulation. It discusses a number of key issues regarding

Simulation by modeling

Proceedings of the March 1-3, 1955, western joint computer conference on - AFIPS '55 (Western), 1955
Simulation by modeling may be classified into three related methods.1. We may use analog models which obey the same laws as the phenomena we wish to study. Instruments such as network analyzers, slide rules, and electrolytic tanks are examples of devices that are used to make analog models.2. We may use mathematical models to describe phenomena we wish

On Modelling And Simulation of Occupant Models

Building Simulation Conference Proceedings, 2015
The selection of modelling and simulation methodologies plays an unprecedented role over the predictive accuracy of occupant behaviour and presence models. In this study, different modelling and simulation formalisms emerging from the literature were introduced to represent occupant's presence and lighting use in BPS tools.

Modeling and simulation of the trawl in fishing simulator

Proceedings of the 15th ACM SIGGRAPH Conference on Virtual-Reality Continuum and Its Applications in Industry - Volume 1, 2016
The aim of the present study is to develop a numerical calculation method to accomplish dynamic simulation of the fishing nets in fishing simulator. Fishing nets were modeled as a group of lumped mass points interconnected with springs that have no mass under the uniform flow motion.

MODELLING AND / FOR / BY SIMULATION

Annual Review in Automatic Programming, 1985
Abstract Various aspects of the close interconnection of the two tasks ‘Modelling a System’ and ‘Simulating a System’, shall be discussed for continuous systems. Some typical examples from different areas of application will be given in order to provide some insight into this matter.

Validation of simulation models

Journal of Experimental & Theoretical Artificial Intelligence, 2012
In philosophy of science, the interest for computational models and simulations has increased heavily during the past decades. Different positions regarding the validity of models have emerged but the views have not succeeded in capturing the diversity of validation methods.
