Political Cycles, Electricity Policy, and Mexico's Economy

open access: yesLatin American Policy, Volume 17, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Electricity reform in Mexico should stimulate economic growth, improve energy efficiency, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This article evaluates the successes and failures of reform and draws lessons across political cycles by analyzing changes in political dynamics—often tied to policy reversals—and the legal framework during the pro ...

European mistletoe shares a similar demographic strategy with non‐parasitic plants

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 5, May 2026.
European mistletoe (Viscum album) does not have a distinct demographic strategy from non‐parasitic plants, as quantified by time‐based life history traits. We found that mistletoe vital rates were driven by mistletoe size and position in the host tree.

Integrating biodiversity and business: Emerging methods driving the nature economy

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1326-1335, May 2026.
Abstract Biodiversity is increasingly recognised as a material (i.e. significant) risk to corporate value creation due to links with climate risk, land use and social equity, and through growing engagement with frameworks, such as the Taskforce on Nature‐related Financial Disclosure and Science‐Based Targets Network.

Long‐term trends of epibionts reflect Mediterranean striped dolphin abundance shifts caused by morbillivirus epidemics

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 3, Page 553-569, March 2026.
This original research piece demonstrates, through empirical and theoretical modelling approaches, that the epibionts of striped dolphins indicate dolphin abundance shifts caused by epidemics of dolphin morbillivirus (DMV). In addition, we provide the first SIR model to investigate the epidemiology of DMV in western Mediterranean striped dolphins ...

Surveillance of ash trees under multiple threats: Integrating emerald ash borer and ash dieback dynamics with stakeholder behaviour

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 3, March 2026.
Tree‐health policies must balance identifying likely entry points and deployment of traps, targeted information campaigns and surveillance subsidies for land managers. Our unique, cross‐disciplinary approach can be applied to other pest/pathogen systems to inform tree‐health plans and how to balance resources.

Successional and native forests predict the occurrence and infection status of Chagas disease vectors in Panama

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 1, January 2026.
Findings here show that successional forest predicts greater kissing bug infestation risk in palm trees, whereas native forest predicts lower kissing bug occurrence but greater infection with T. cruzi. These insights can guide land use planning towards vegetation management practices that help minimize T. cruzi transmission risks for rural communities.

Mapping the density of giant trees in the Amazon

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 1, Page 152-168, January 2026.
Summary Tall trees (height ≥ 60 m) are keystone elements of tropical forests, strongly influencing biodiversity, carbon storage, and ecosystem resilience. Yet, their density and spatial distribution remain poorly quantified, especially in remote Amazonian regions, limiting our understanding of their ecological roles and contribution to forest–climate ...
