Functional traits explain both seedling and adult plant spatial patterns in gypsum annual species
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Ecological processes such as seed dispersal or plant–plant interactions and environmental constraints such as climate or soil heterogeneity are known to influence establishment, and thus the spatial patterns of plant communities and populations.

Climate and crown damage drive tree mortality in southern Amazonian edge forests
Tree death is a key process for our understanding of how forests are responding to global change. Our long‐term research shows that more than 70% of all trees dying in this critical region at the edge of Amazonia already had markedly broken and damaged crowns years before they died.

Automated conservation assessment of the orchid family with deep learning
Abstract International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List assessments are essential for prioritizing conservation needs but are resource intensive and therefore available only for a fraction of global species richness. Automated conservation assessments based on digitally available geographic occurrence records can be a rapid alternative,

Effect of oxygen‐producing suture material on hypoxic colonic anastomoses in an experimental model
Anastomotic leak remains a significant problem after colorectal surgery, and administration of supplemental perioperative oxygen has been shown to improve healing of colorectal anastomoses. The manufacture of an oxygen‐producing suture material is described; experiments showed that it improved some aspects of the healing of bowel anastomoses.

Detecting deterrence from patrol data
Abstract The threat posed to protected areas by the illegal killing of wildlife is countered principally by ranger patrols that aim to detect and deter potential offenders. Deterring poaching is a fundamental conservation objective, but its achievement is difficult to identify, especially when the prime source of information comes in the form of the ...

How Food Geometry and Toughness Influence Ingestive Patterns in Lemurs
Initial bite placement is influenced by food toughness and geometry. Species‐specific feeding strategies reflect differences in masticatory morphology and functional flexibility. Lemur catta is more likely to use the postcanine tooth row; Propithecus verreauxi prefers anterior biting. ABSTRACT We investigate the extent to which food toughness, geometry,

ABSTRACT Regulated asset base (RAB) and results‐based financing (RBF) are key emerging infrastructure finance models, offering stable returns (RAB) and outcome‐based incentives (RBF). This perspective proposes a hybrid RAB‐RBF model to bridge the “viability gap” in developing regions and catalyze low‐carbon energy infrastructure access where cost ...

Wound chronicity and fibroblast senescence – implications for treatment
