Hidden Losses: Assessing the Risk of Coextinction Among Ectoparasitic Flies and Their Bat Host Species in Brazil

The potential impact of bat species extinction on the number of their ectoparasitic fly species, based on interaction data for Brazil. As bat host species are removed over time, more connected species (green) would experience steeper declines and lead to greater ectoparasite losses when compared to a random extinction model (gray).

Disturbance from fire mediates a potential ecophysiological trade‐off between adult performance and juvenile recruitment in the microendemic lizard Ameivula jalapensis. Starvation duration alters predatory behaviour of Eriopis connexa, affecting aphid consumption and survival dynamics. Increased starvation enhances attack rate, accelerating prey depletion without substantially affecting handling time. Functional response remains type II, with stronger predation under prolonged food deprivation.
