Moderating effects of subgroups in linear models

Biometrika, 1989
Linear regression models with two random influences are considered. One of the influences is assumed to be a (discrete) qualitative factor whose levels define subgroups. The situation is elsewhere defined as a linear regression model 2 within (random) groups. The main effects of the levels of the qualitative factor are called moderating effects.
