In Situ Quantization with Memory‐Transistor Transfer Unit Based on Electrochemical Random‐Access Memory for Edge Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By combining ionic nonvolatile memories and transistors, this work proposes a compact synaptic unit to enable low‐precision neural network training. The design supports in situ weight quantization without extra programming and achieves accuracy comparable to ideal methods. This work obtains energy consumption advantage of 25.51× (ECRAM) and 4.84× (RRAM)

A Fourth Sophistic Movement? Mêtis, Rhetoric, and Politics Between Byzantium and Italy in the Fourteenth Century

open access: yesHumanities
This article adopts the thesis formulated by Laurent Pernot, according to which sophists existed in every period of history. By comparing the rhetorical strategies developed by the Second Sophistic authors—in particular Aelius Aristides—with the works of

Automatically Defining Protein Words for Diverse Functional Predictions Based on Attention Analysis of a Protein Language Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Understanding protein sequence–function relationships remains challenging due to poorly defined motifs and limited residue‐level annotations. An annotation‐agnostic framework is introduced that segments protein sequences into “protein words” using attention patterns from protein language models.

Halogen‐Bond Coupled Halogenated‐π‐Conjugation Enables Giant Birefringence in Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The perfect crystal packing achieved via the halogen‐bond (XB) coupled halogenated‐π‐conjugation strategy effectively induces an ultrahigh birefringence (Δn = 0.97), which exhibits promising potential in polarization control and phase modulation.

Guided vs. unguided social media-assisted language learning: An In-depth analysis of speaking performance, willingness to communicate, and social emotional learning

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Applied Linguistics
Previous studies have indicated that social media has been used by students to develop speaking skills. However, how guided social media (GSM) and unguided social media (USM) activities in conversation courses affect their speaking skills and willingness
