Investigation of Flexibility Enhancement Mechanisms and Microstructural Characteristics in Emulsified Asphalt and Latex-Modified Cement

Sustainability
The inherent limitations of ordinary cement mortar—characterized by its high brittleness and low flexibility—result in a diminished load-bearing capacity, predisposing concrete pavements to cracking. A novel approach has been proposed to enhance material

Characterization of Asphalt Cements Modified with Crumb Rubber from Discarded Tires

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 1997
Blends with up to 20 percent ground vulcanized rubber (both crumb and 200-mesh powder particles) from recycled tires were prepared with asphalt cements of various grades (AC-5 to AC-30) and evaluated using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Blends produced from powdered rubber particles exhibited Newtonian behavior at high temperatures.

Study the Behavior of Asphalt Cement Modified by Different Types of Nanocarbons

Civil Engineering Journal
Nanocarbon application as an asphalt cement modifier has revealed improved and satisfactory results in the rheological properties of modified asphalt cement. All previous studies examined the effect of one or more nanocarbons, regardless of the effect of

Micromechanical shear modulus modeling of activated crumb rubber modified asphalt cements

Construction and Building Materials, 2017
Abstract The rheological properties of three asphalt cements containing reacted and activated rubber (RAR) are evaluated to quantify the relative effects of swelling, splitting, and absorption. Rheological testing and electron microscopy are used to measure the dynamic shear modulus, |G∗|, and rubber particle changes respectively. It is found that |G∗

Effects of Polyphosphoric Acid on Physical, Rheological, and Chemical Properties of Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS)-Modified Asphalt Binder

Journal of Composites Science
High temperatures combined with heavy traffic load necessitate asphalt binder modification to enhance its performance and durability. This research examines the effects of polyphosphoric acid (PPA) on the physical, rheological, and chemical properties of

Investigation of the effects of different polymer-modified asphalt cements on asphalt mixes at low temperature

Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2007
The extreme environmental conditions in Canada require the use of asphalt cement that can provide a high resistance to low-temperature cracking during the winter season and a high resistance to rutting due to the elevated temperatures in the summer.

Performance Evaluation of Composite CNT/PE-Modified Asphalt Concrete at Binder, Mixture, and Pavement Levels

Civil Engineering Journal
Advancing the multi-scale performance of asphalt pavements requires innovative binder modifications that address limitations in rutting resistance, fatigue resistance, and durability across the binder, mixture, and structural levels. This study evaluates

Pavement performance of acidic fine aggregate-based asphalt mixture using geopolymer modified asphalt

Engineering Research Express
The effective application of bitumen in pavement is hindered by its poor adhesion to acidic aggregates. This study investigates the potential of using geopolymer as an additive to improve the adhesion between bitumen and acidic aggregates. The geopolymer

Experimental Study on APP Modified Asphalt Felt Used as Interlayer between Old Cement Concrete Pavement and Asphalt Overlay

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
To study the mechanisms and effects of atactic polypropylene (APP) modified asphalt felt preventing crack, which is used as interlayer between old cement concrete pavement and asphalt overlay, authors carried through the tests of level tension, field road, and direct shearing.

Laboratory assessment of the impact of modified asphalt binder on mechanical properties of grouted macadam mixtures under various performance conditions

International Journal of Pavement Engineering
Grouted Macadam (GM) mixtures are used for pavement coatings due to their strong load-bearing capacity and rutting resistance. However, weak asphalt-cement interface bonding reduces crack resistance performance of these mixtures.
