Generalised partition functions: inferences on phase space distributions [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2016
It is demonstrated that the statistical mechanical partition function can be used to construct various different forms of phase space distributions. This indicates that its structure is not restricted to the Gibbs–Boltzmann factor prescription which ...

Pade approximants of random Stieltjes series

open access: yes, 2007
We consider the random continued fraction S(t) := 1/(s_1 + t/(s_2 + t/(s_3 + >...))) where the s_n are independent random variables with the same gamma distribution. For every realisation of the sequence, S(t) defines a Stieltjes function.

On the Computation of Modified Bessel Function Ratios [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics of Computation, 1978
A detailed comparison is made between a continued fraction of Gauss, and one of Perron, for the evaluation of ratios of modified Bessel functions I v ( x ) / I v − 1

Thermodynamics of Ideal Gas in Doubly Special Relativity

open access: yes, 2012
We study thermodynamics of an ideal gas in Doubly Special Relativity. New type of special functions (which we call Incomplete Modified Bessel functions) emerge.

Hidden Markov graphical models with state‐dependent generalized hyperbolic distributions

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract In this article, we develop a novel hidden Markov graphical model to investigate time‐varying interconnectedness between different financial markets. To identify conditional correlation structures under varying market conditions and accommodate shape features embedded in financial time series, we rely upon the generalized hyperbolic family of ...

Geometric Nature of the Turánian of Modified Bessel Function of the First Kind

open access: yesAxioms
This work explores the geometric properties of the Turanian of the modified Bessel function of the first kind (TMBF). Using the properties of the digamma function, we establish conditions under which the normalized TMBF satisfies starlikeness, convexity,

Asymptotic independence in more than two dimensions and its implications on risk management

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract In extreme value theory, the presence of asymptotic independence signifies that joint extreme events across multiple variables are unlikely. Although well understood in a bivariate context, the concept remains relatively unexplored when addressing the nuances of simultaneous occurrence of extremes in higher dimensions.

Plasmakristall‐4 Experiment: 10 Years of Operation in Orbit

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plasmakristall‐4 (PK‐4) is a microgravity complex plasma laboratory operated for 10 years on board the International Space Station. Its main purpose is the particle‐resolved investigation of generic condensed matter phenomena using strongly coupled suspensions of microparticles immersed in low‐pressure gas‐discharge plasmas.

The Modified q-Bessel Functions and the q-Bessel-Macdonald Functions

open access: yes, 1995
We define a q-analog of the modified Bessel and Bessel-Macdonald functions. As for the q-Bessel functions of Jackson there is a couple of functions of the both kind. They are arisen in the Harmonic analysis on quantum symmetric spaces similarly to their classical counterpart. Their definition is based on the power expansions.
