We studied bryophytes on insular erratic boulders. Confirming predictions of island biogeography, the species–area curve for boulder specialists was steeper than for generalist bryophytes. Species richness was positively related to boulder size while community composition mainly reflected a boulder's location inside vs outside of forests.
