Effects of adding dexamethasone or ketamine to bupivacaine for ultrasound-guided thoracic paravertebral block in patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy: A prospective randomized controlled study

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2018
Background and Aims: Pain after modified radical mastectomy (MRM) has been successfully managed with thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding dexamethasone or ketamine as adjuncts to bupivacaine ...

A Randomised Two-way Comparison of Mastectomy Performed Using Harmonic Scalpel or Monopolar Diathermy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The purpose of this study was to perform an overall evaluation and comparison of the success rate of modified radical mastectomy by harmonic scalpel and monopolar electrocauter. The prospective study included all of the patients that were planned for and

Reducing low‐dose exposure in helical TomoTherapy for locally advanced left‐sided breast cancer with a deformable image registration–based dose‐mimicking workflow

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Background Helical TomoTherapy provides highly conformal dose distributions for breast irradiation but is limited by extensive low‐dose spillage (“low‐dose bath”), contributing to increased integral dose and potential long‐term toxicities. Complete blocks can suppress low‐dose spread, but at the cost of prolonged treatment times on legacy ...

Mastectomy by inverted drip incision and immediate reconstruction: data from 510 cases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
BACKGROUND: Immediate reconstruction of the breast can be performed in selected cases after mastectomy for breast cancer or after prophylactic mastectomy in patients with a high risk of developing breast cancer.

Commissioning of a Monte Carlo‐based scanning proton beam for breast cancer: Incorporating LETd calculations and variable RBE models

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Background Using a constant relative biological effectiveness (RBE = 1.1) in proton therapy may underestimate the RBE‐weighted dose in high linear energy transfer (LET) regions at the distal end of the beam, thereby limiting the ability to accurately predict clinical outcomes.

Conservative surgery for breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Modified radical mastectomy has been the traditional surgical treatment of early breast cancer but in recent years breast conserving surgery has been used with no significant difference in local recurrence and survival rates.

Metformin‐Mediated Glycaemic Regulation as a Potential Strategy for Breast Cancer Prevention

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2026.
Metformin (MET), a common antihyperglycemic drug, shows promising anti‐cancer effects in breast cancer (BC). It activates adenosine monophosphate‐activated protein kinase (AMPK), regulating cellular energy and inducing cell cycle arrest, anti‐proliferation, and microenvironment alterations.

Regional anesthesia options in managing mastectomy: A case series

open access: yesBali Journal of Anesthesiology, 2020
Regional anesthesia can be a choice of technique in mastectomy surgery. The paravertebral block provides a safer setting by maintaining stable hemodynamic compared to thoracic epidural block and less of opioid needed in the postoperative period.
