Abstract This study examines Swiss citizens' preferences for alternative political decision‐makers—independent experts, businesspeople, and ordinary citizens via referenda—relative to party politicians, and how these preferences, when combined with attitudes toward strong leadership, translate into voting orientations for the main Swiss parties.

Pollution and Haunted Eco‐Histories: Silent Hill and Silent Horrors in Centralia, Pennsylvania
ABSTRACT Centralia is a former mining town and borough in Northeastern Pennsylvania, whose population has been steadily declining since the Mine Fire of 1962—a fire that still burns today. The “horrors” of living in Centralia are reflected in horror media set in postindustrial mining towns like Silent Hill.

We assess the effect of sanitation felling performed in 2022 in North‐Eastern Italy on bark beetle damage that occurred in 2023 across eight spruce forest types, as evaluated using multispectral satellite imagery. Bark beetle damage was reduced only at very high or very low sanitation felling rates.
