Reformulation of the MODTRAN band model for higher spectral resolution
SPIE Proceedings, 2000The MODTRAN 1 cm-1 band model has been reformulated for application to higher spectral resolution. Molecular line center absorption is still determined from finite spectral bin equivalent widths but is now partitioned between the bin containing the molecular transition and its nearest neighbor bin.

Exploiting MODTRAN radiation transport for atmospheric correction: The FLAASH algorithm
Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Information Fusion. FUSION 2002. (IEEE Cat.No.02EX5997), 2003Terrain categorization and target detection algorithms applied to hyperspectral imagery (HSI) typically operate on the measured reflectance (of sun and sky illumination) by an object or scene. Since the reflectance is a non-dimensional ratio, the reflectance by an object is nominally not affected by variations in lighting conditions.

Study in Retrieval Visibility and Optical Thickness of Fog with MODTRAN
2010 International Conference on Multimedia Technology, 2010In recent years, many scientists have done some work in monitoring the fog, and achieved fruitful results. Now we want to conduct more in-depth study. In this paper, we utilize MODTRAN to simulate the relationship between transmittance and visibility, height of fog. By fitting the relationship between them, we get the formula that calculates visibility

Cluster versus grid for operational generation of ATCOR’s modtran-based look up tables
Parallel Computing, 2008A critical step in the product generation of satellite or airborne earth observation data is the correction of atmospheric features. Due to the complexity of the underlying physical model and the amount of coordinated effort required to provide, verify and maintain baseline atmospheric observations, one particular scientific modelling program, modtran,

Building a J-MASS IR environment player using MODTRAN
Proceedings of the IEEE 1996 National Aerospace and Electronics Conference NAECON 1996, 2002This paper describes methodology incorporating the MODTRAN infrared propagation model as a player in the Joint Modeling and Simulation System (J-MASS). MODTRAN, developed by the Air Force Geophysics Directorate of Phillips Laboratory, provides a medium resolution model of absorption, scattering, and background IR effects widely used in modeling and ...

MODTRAN® scattering: Extracting spherical-refractive path contributions from plane-parallel disort
2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017The well-established and extensively validated atmospheric radiative transfer model MODTRAN®1 is widely used by the remote sensing community to define the mapping from surface spectral reflectance to solar scatter radiance as a function of atmosphere definition.

Comparison of skylight polarization measurements and MODTRAN-P calculations
Journal of Applied Remote Sensing, 2011Increased use of polarization in optical remote sensing provides motivation for a study of instruments and methods that can be used to test and validate polarized atmospheric radiative transfer codes and simulation tools. An example comparison of measured skylight polarization and calculations from a preliminary version of the polarized MODTRAN ...

Validation of MODTRAN®6 and its line-by-line algorithm
Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, 2017Abstract A new line-by-line (LBL) algorithm has been developed for use within the MODTRAN ® 6 1 atmospheric radiative transfer model. The model computes both emitted and scattered line-of-sight radiances utilizing a spherical refractive geometry package and the DISORT discrete ordinate model to solve the 1-D scattering problem.

Further comparison of MODTRAN 5 to measured data in the UV band
SPIE Proceedings, 2014The ability to accurately model background radiation from the sun is important in understanding the operation of missile systems with ultraviolet (UV) guard channels. In theory a missile system’s UV channel detects a target’s silhouette, caused by its ‘negative contrast’ with respect to background UV radiation.

Accuracy of lowtran 7 and modtran in the 20–55-μm region
Applied Optics, 1994LowTRAN 7 and MODTRAN were evaluated in the 2.0-5.5-µm region against field-collection data at high zenith angles and long path lengths to determine the degree of uncertainty associated with these models under these conditions. Matching data sets were developed with data from the U.S.
