Research on High-Voltage Large-Capacity Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) System
2012 Second International Conference on Intelligent System Design and Engineering Application, 2012Modular multilevel converter (MMC) is a newly introduced topology of multilevel converter with six arms, each of which is formed by a series connection of several chopper-cells and an inductor. This paper first analyzes the topology and working principle of high-voltage large-capacity MMC.

Reliability-oriented switching frequency analysis for Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC)
2015 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2015In this paper, reliability-oriented switching frequency analysis for Modular Multilevel Converter is investigated. In the medium voltage and high voltage direct current applications, the switching frequency should be low enough to avoid the converter from high switching power losses.

Optimal Control of Modular MultiLevel Converters (MMCs) for Minimum Storage Requirement
IECON 2018 - 44th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2018With the push towards Medium Voltage DC (MVDC) based electrical distribution systems, the power converter(s) between Medium Voltage AC generators and common MVDC buses must handle more power than any other electrical power conversion component in the distribution system. The Modular Multi-Level Converter (MMC) is a compelling topology for this function

Protecting modular multilevel converters (MMC) against ac fault by deadbeat control
2013 IEEE PES Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC), 2013The paper shows that deadbeat control and harmonic elimination by feedforward and feedback can be implemented by MMC. In tracking the current reference, MMC is: (i) safe from large destructive of ac faults; (ii) free from the odd harmonics generated by the nonlinearities of MMC. As deadbeat control cannot filter the even harmonics on the dc side, their

Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) for Traction Applications Slides
2017Since its initial conception, the transformer has been used in the most diverse applications where insulation and adaptation of voltage levels are demanded. In fact, this device is widely employed either directly or indirectly in all electric engineering fields due its simple design for distinct power and voltage conversion levels.

A novel capacitor voltage balancing control strategy for modular multilevel converters (MMC)
2013 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS), 2013Recently modular multilevel converters are highly attractive for medium, high-voltage power transition and electrical machine drive. Capacitor voltage sorting is very important for capacitor voltage-balancing control. This paper describes a novel sorting algorithm for capacitor voltage of modular multilevel converters (MMC).

Efficient Grounding for Modular Multilevel HVDC Converters (MMC) on the AC Side
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2014An unbalance voltage between a positive pole and negative pole will exist for a long time in an ungrounded modular multilevel converter (MMC) HVDC transmission system. A zig-zag transformer has been proposed to construct an artificial neutral point and keep voltage balance between the positive pole and the negative pole.
