An experiment in audio classification from compressed data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this paper we present an algorithm for automatic classification of sound into speech, instrumental sound/ music and silence. The method is based on thresholding of features derived from the modulation envelope of the frequency limited audio signal ...

Adversarial Filters for Secure Modulation Classification

open access: yesCoRR, 2020
Modulation Classification (MC) refers to the problem of classifying the modulation class of a wireless signal. In the wireless communications pipeline, MC is the first operation performed on the received signal and is critical for reliable decoding. This paper considers the problem of secure modulation classification, where a transmitter (Alice) wants ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

A real-time trajectory classification module

open access: yesProceedings of the 1st ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Methods for Enriched Mobility Data: Emerging issues and Ethical perspectives 2023, 2023
Nowadays, massive volumes of mobility data are being generated from thousands of tracking devices, such as GPS devices, RFID sensors, location-based services, satellites, and wireless communication technologies. This phenomenon can be strongly observed in the maritime domain and as a result, today's industry is flooded with tracking data originating ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Quasiperiodic functions theory and the superlattice potentials for a two-dimensional electron gas

open access: yes, 2003
We consider Novikov problem of the classification of level curves of quasiperiodic functions on the plane and its connection with the conductivity of two-dimensional electron gas in the presence of both orthogonal magnetic field and the superlattice ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
