Advanced optical modulation formats

Proceedings of the IEEE, 2006
Fiber-optic communication systems form the high-capacity transport infrastructure that enables global broadband data services and advanced Internet applications. The desire for higher per-fiber transport capacities and, at the same time, the drive for lower costs per end-to-end transmitted information bit has led to optically routed networks with high ...

Modulation of osteoclast formation

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2005
Osteoclasts are derived following the fusion of precursors of hematopoietic and myelomonocytic origin after appropriate stimulus, such as that afforded by RANKL and M-CSF. Thus the osteoclast can be considered as a specialized type of macrophage, and several of the factors that affect osteoclast formation also have affects upon macrophage ...

High Pressure Modulates Amyloid Formation

Protein & Peptide Letters, 2006
A common mechanism of conformational changes and pathological aggregation of proteins associated with amyloid diseases remains to be proven. High pressure is emerging as a new strategy for studying aspects of amyloid formation. Pressure provides a convenient means to populate and characterize partially folded states, which are thought to have a key ...

Electro-absorption Modulator for Advanced Modulation Format

2018 23rd Opto-Electronics and Communications Conference (OECC), 2018
We show lightwave advanced modulation using compact laser and electro-absorption modulator with emphasis on digital pre-coding and pre-compensation, consisting of phase-balanced differential encoding. The technique can be applied to M-PSK and M-QAM formats.

Silicon Microring Modulators for Advanced Modulation Formats

Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2013, 2013
Coherent optical transmitters can be implemented on silicon photonic integrated circuits with compact sizes and low cost. Here, we demonstrate a 56-Gb/s quadrature phase-shift keying modulation generated by silicon microring modulators with thermal control elements.

High Sensitivity Modulation Formats

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2012
We review high sensitivity modulation formats and in particular, review the principle, implementation, and performance of formats based on the combined use of polarization-division-multiplexed quadrature phase-shift keying (PDM-QPSK, or PQ) and mary pulse-position modulation (m-PPM).

BER Estimation for Multilevel Modulation Formats

Asia Communications and Photonics Conference and Exhibition, 2009
We review existing BER estimation methods and propose alternative methods to assess the performance of multilevel modulation formats with both direct and coherent detection. The impact of digital signal processing (DSP) on the BER estimation procedure is discussed for the latter case.

Limiting angiogenesis to modulate scar formation

Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, 2019
Angiogenesis, the process of new blood vessel formation from existing blood vessels, is a key aspect of virtually every repair process. During wound healing an extensive, but immature and leaky vascular plexus forms which is subsequently reduced by regression of non-functional vessels.

Optimized Gallium Arsenide Modulators for Advanced Modulation Formats

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, 2013
We review the guided-wave subcomponents required in the design of high-functionality modulators for advanced modulation formats using the GaAs/AlGaAs material system. In these complex devices, small loss contributions rapidly accumulate unless the substructures are well optimized, not only for low loss but also for process tolerance.
