Modulation format identification using the Calinski–Harabasz index

Applied Optics, 2022
Modulation format identification (MFI) is a key technology in optical performance monitoring for the next-generation optical network, such as the intelligent cognitive optical network. An MFI scheme based on the Calinski–Harabasz index for a polarization-division multiplexing (PDM) optical fiber communication system is proposed.

Blind and Noise-Tolerant Modulation Format Identification

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2018
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a simple, blind digital modulation format identification scheme for a quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) coherent optical communication system. In the proposed scheme, we utilize a density-peak clustering algorithm to determine the number of amplitude levels of the signal as the feature for modulation format

Modulation Format Identification for Adaptive Optical OFDM System

2019 24th OptoElectronics and Communications Conference (OECC) and 2019 International Conference on Photonics in Switching and Computing (PSC), 2019
For adaptive optical OFDM system with various modulation signals, we propose a noise-robust modulation format identification based on peak-density clustering algorithm for effective symbol decision. The proposed method has been experimentally evaluated for M-QAM signals.

Modulation Format Identification Using Kmeans Clustering and Cluster Validity Index

26th Optoelectronics and Communications Conference, 2021
A low complexity modulation format identification based on unsupervised Kmeans clustering algorithm and cluster validity index is proposed. Simulations show the scheme’s 100% identification accuracy and stable performance.

Modulation format identification using sparse asynchronous amplitude histograms

Advanced Photonics 2015, 2015
Sparse asynchronous amplitude histograms (AAHs) are used in genetic algorithm (GA) aided artificial neural network (ANN) based modulation format identification (MFI) in order to significantly simplify the computational complexity without sacrificing identification performance.

Modulation format identification based on phase statistics in Stokes space

Optics Communications, 2021
Abstract In this work, a high-performance, low-complexity modulation format identification (MFI) technique is proposed and experimentally demonstrated for coherent optical receivers using features extracted from phase statistics in Stokes space. Numerical simulations as well as long-haul experiments are carried out to validate the proposed MFI scheme.
