Blind modulation format identification using nonlinear power transformation
This paper proposes and experimentally demonstrates a blind modulation format identification (MFI) method delivering high accuracy (> 99%) even in a low OSNR regime (< 10 dB). By using nonlinear power transformation and peak detection, the proposed MFI can recognize whether the signal modulation format is BPSK, QPSK, 8-PSK or 16-QAM.

UDWDM-PON using low-cost coherent transceivers with limited tunability and heuristic DWA [PDF]
A new Passive Optical Network (PON) for access, making use of Ultra Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (UDWDM) by densely spacing channels at few GHz, and introducing the “wavelength-to-the-user” concept, is proposed.

RF-pilot aided modulation format identification for hitless coherent transceiver
We propose a RF-pilot aided modulation format identification (MFI) technique to enable a hitless flexible coherent transceiver with fast format switching. For the MFI, modulation format information is encoded to the amplitude of the RF-pilot, which can be simultaneously used for the compensation of both laser phase noise and fiber nonlinearity.

An approach for simultaneous modulation format identification (MFI) and optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring in digital coherent optical communications is proposed based on optoelectronic reservoir computing (RC) and the signal’s amplitude histograms (AHs) obtained after the adaptive post-equalization.
