A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.

Goodness-of-Fit versus Significance: A CAPM Selection with Dynamic Betas Applied to the Brazilian Stock Market

open access: yesInternational Journal of Financial Studies, 2017
In this work, a Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) with time-varying betas is considered. These betas evolve over time, conditional on financial and non-financial variables.

GUIP1: a R package for dose escalation strategies in phase I cancer clinical trials

open access: yesBMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making, 2020
Background The main objective of phase I cancer clinical trials is to identify the maximum tolerated dose, usually defined as the highest dose associated with an acceptable level of severe toxicity during the first cycle of treatment.

Parabolic Dish Stirling Module [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
The design, manufacture, and assembly of a commercially designed parabolic dish Stirling 25 kWe module is examined. The cost, expected performance, design uniquenesses, and future commercial potential of this module, which is regarded as the most ...

Quasidualizing modules [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Commutative Algebra, 2014
We introduce and study "quasidualizing" modules. An artinian R-module T is quasidualizing if the homothety map \hat R\rightarrow Hom(T,T) is an isomorphism and Ext_R^i(T,T)=0 for each integer i>0. Quasidualizing modules are associated to semidualizing modules via Matlis duality.

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

C3-Modules

open access: yesDemonstratio Mathematica, 2016
AbstractIn this paper, we provide some characterizations of semisimple rings, right V-rings, right hereditary and regular right FGC-rings in terms of C3-modules. The notions of C3-envelope and C3-cover are introduced.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

The academic acculturation of francophone students to a multiculturally dissimilar academic institution in South Africa [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Studies in Social Sciences and Humanities, 2016
This paper explores how French-speaking students (FSS) academically acculturate to a private provider of higher education (PPHE). It is a qualitative study that utilises semistructured interviews, focus group interviews and narrative inquiry as methods ...

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...
