Elastic modulus of hard tissues

Journal of Biomechanics, 2012
This work aims at evaluating the elastic modulus of hard biological tissues by considering their staggered platelet micro-structure. An analytical expression for the effective modulus along the stagger direction is formulated using three non-dimensional structural variables. Structures with a single staggered hierarchy (e.g.

Dynamic elastic modulus of ‘packable’ composites

Dental Materials, 2001
A new type of so-called 'packable', 'condensable' or 'mouldable' composite has been developed and aims at replacing amalgam for posterior restorations. The purpose of the present investigation was to study the dynamic elastic modulus of 12 packable composites, and to follow the evolution of this property following prolonged water absorption.Of each ...

Modulus of Elasticity

1983
In Part B, Section 3.1.8, relations to estimate the modulus of elasticity of concrete are summarized. In the following, the effect of type of aggregate and age at time of load application upon the modulus of elasticity, as well as on the modulus of deformation, will be illustrated.

Elastic modulus of the periodontal ligament

Biomaterials, 1997
This study used a two-dimensional finite element mesh of a lower first premolar to model two different tooth loading systems which measured either the vertical or the horizontal displacements of this particular tooth. The elastic modulus of the periodontal ligament was varied in the finite element model until the horizontal and vertical displacements ...

Effective elastic modulus of nano-particles

2004 1st IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (IEEE Cat. No.04EX745), 2004
Atoms at a free surface experience a different local environment than do atoms in the bulk of a material. As a result, the equilibrium position and energy of these atoms will, in general, be different from bulk positions and bulk energies. In traditional continuum mechanics, such interfacial free energy is typically neglected because it is associated ...

Elastic modulus of trabecular bone material

Journal of Biomechanics, 1988
An ultrasonic technique was used to measure both the elastic modulus (Young's modulus) of trabecular bone material and the elastic modulus of the cancellous structure. The average trabecular modulus, measured on specimens obtained from three human and one bovine distal femora, was 13.0 GPa (S.D. 1.47) and 10.9 GPa (S.D. 1.57), respectively.

Shear Modulus of Elasticity of the Esophagus

Annals of Biomedical Engineering, 2004
Experimental and diagnostic procedures like distension of a balloon catheter, bougie, and esophagogastroduodenoscopy can induce shear deformation in the esophageal wall. However, the shear modulus of the esophagus is yet unknown. The aim of this study was to determine the esophageal shear modulus and its dependence on the circumferential and ...
