Fabrication and Curing Kinetics of Thermal Insulation Material Suitable for Deep-Earth Extreme Environments

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In the extreme high-temperature (up to 150 °C) and high-pressure (up to 140 MPa) conditions of deep in situ condition-preserved coring devices, high-strength epoxy resin was selected as the insulation layer.

Entropy‐Driven Design of Low‐Melting‐Point Alloys via Compositionally Complex Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Conventional low‐melting‐point alloys (LMPAs) are limited by a narrow compositional space and inherent property trade‐offs. This review presents an entropy‐driven design strategy that overcomes these limitations, ushering in a new class of low‐melting‐point compositionally complex alloys (LMCCAs).

Design of a Multistable Finger Prosthesis with Programmable Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This research article shows the development of a multistable programmble metamaterial for the use as a finger prosthesis. The material was designed on different hierarchical levels where the influence of geometrical parameters and combination of mechanical elements was explored.

Effective elastic modulus of bone-like hierarchical materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A shear-lag model is used to study the mechanical properties of bone-like hierarchical materials. The relationship between the overall effective modulus and the number of hierarchy level is obtained.

Performance enhancement of cantilever piezoelectric energy harvesters by sizing analysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Smart and Nano Materials, 2020
This paper presents the results of the performance of piezoelectric cantilever beams in relation to their size. The total produced power represents the main indicator of performance of a piezoelectric harvesting system while the area of the beams stays ...

Fabrication Routes for Ionic Conducting Fiber Strain Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conducting fiber strain sensors (ICFSs) offer compliant, textile‐integrable sensing. Thus far, the commercialization of ICFSs has been constrained by fiber fabrication routes. This review provides a fabrication‐centric analysis of ICFSs correlating processing strategies with material properties and scalability.

Investigating the Effect of Varied Short Bamboo Fiber Content on the Thermal, Impact, and Flexural Properties of Green Epoxy Composites

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers
In this study, the thermal and mechanical characteristics of bamboo fiber-reinforced greenpoxy matrix composites were evaluated by varying the fiber loading from 30wt.% to 60wt.% during the compression molding process.

Influence of TiC and TiN Ceramic Reinforcements on the Microstructure, Thermal Expansion Behavior, and Tensile Properties of Invar 36 Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines Invar composites reinforced with titanium carbide (TiC) and titanium nitride (TiN) using laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). It presents the influence of reinforcements on microstructure, tensile properties, and thermal expansion. Results show that TiC effectively strengthens Invar while maintaining low thermal expansion, whereas TiN ...

Rapidly Solidified High‐Strength Invar 36 Prepared by Planar‐Flow Melt Spinning

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The Invar 36 alloy was rapidly solidified using the planar‐flow melt‐spinning technique. Ribbon samples with thicknesses ranging from 20 to 160 mm were produced. As the grain size of the ribbon decreased to sub‐micron levels, the hardness increased by more than 2 times.
