Mathematical modeling of processes of heat and mass transfer during drying of wood biomass

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
For the first time, a mathematical model for the drying of woody biomass during conductive heating with localization of the evaporation front has been formulated.

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Impacts of vegetation and topsoil removal on soil erosion, soil moisture, and infiltration

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences & Environment, 2023
Soil erosion by water is a critical environmental problem that affects a large land area globally and is expected to increase substantially as a result of climate change‐induced rainfall intensification. This study sought to determine the impacts of soil

In silico and in vitro exploration of a tyrosinase for biocatalytic production of catechols

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tyrosinase from Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum is a promising biocatalyst for producing valuable catechols from monophenol substrates. This tyrosinase is uniquely suited to this due to its high monophenolase : diphenolase ratio. We combined in silico docking and in vivo kinetic characterisation of this tyrosinase with 11 industrially relevant monophenols,

Comparative study of mathematical and experimental models of coffee bean drying rate in a solar dryer simulator [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The drying process of coffee beans requires heat energy to evaporate the moisture content in the material to be dried. Arabica coffee is dried at controlled temperatures (50°C, 60°C and 70°C) and wind speeds (0.4 m/s, 0.8 m/s and 1 m/s).

Performance Investigation of a Hollow Fiber Membrane-Based Desiccant Liquid Air Dehumidification System

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
The membrane-based desiccant liquid air dehumidification system is a promising technology for efficient humidity control in buildings. The use of a membrane module allows, among other things, for a compact design with a relatively large heat and mass ...

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.
