Review on Fabrication Technologies for Optical Mold Inserts

open access: yesMicromachines, 2019
Polymer optics have gained increasing importance in recent years. With advancing requirements for the optical components, the fabrication process remains a challenge.

Novel Methodologies for Solving the Inverse Unsteady Heat Transfer Problem of Estimating the Boundary Heat Flux in Continuous Casting Molds [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
In this work, we investigate the estimation of the transient mold-slab heat flux in continuous casting molds given some thermocouples measurements in the mold plates. Mathematically, we can see this problem as the estimation of a Neumann boundary condition given pointwise state observations in the interior of the domain.

Optimal Algorithms for Separating a Polyhedron from Its Single-Part Mold [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Casting is a manufacturing process where liquid material is poured into a mold having the shape of a desired product. After the material solidifies, the product is removed from the mold. We study the case where the mold is made of a single part and the object to be produced is a three-dimensional polyhedron.

Indoor visible mold and mold odor are associated with new‐onset childhood wheeze in a dose‐dependent manner

open access: yesIndoor Air: International Journal of Indoor Environment and Health, 2018
Evidence is accumulating that indoor dampness and mold are associated with the development of asthma. The underlying mechanisms remain unknown. New Zealand has high rates of both asthma and indoor mold and is ideally placed to investigate this.

Changing Epidemiology of Invasive Mold Infections in Patients Receiving Azole Prophylaxis.

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2017
Breakthrough invasive mold infections (IMIs) that occur during posaconazole or voriconazole prophylaxis are rare complications for which epidemiological data are lacking.

Physarum Can Compute Shortest Paths [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical Biology, 309:121-133, 2012, 2011
Physarum Polycephalum is a slime mold that is apparently able to solve shortest path problems. A mathematical model has been proposed by biologists to describe the feedback mechanism used by the slime mold to adapt its tubular channels while foraging two food sources s0 and s1.

Dampness and mold in homes across China: Associations with rhinitis, ocular, throat and dermal symptoms, headache and fatigue among adults

open access: yesIndoor Air: International Journal of Indoor Environment and Health, 2018
We studied dampness and mold in China in relation to rhinitis, ocular, throat and dermal symptoms, headache and fatigue. A questionnaire study was performed in six cities including 36 541 randomized parents of young children. Seven self-reported signs of

The dual nature of TDC – bridging dendritic and T cells in immunity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
TDC are hematopoietic cells combining dendritic and T cell features. They reach secondary lymphoid organs (SLOs) and peripheral organs (liver and lungs) after FLT3‐dependent development in the bone marrow and maturation in the thymus. TDC are activated and enriched in SLOs upon viral infection, suggesting that they might play unique immune roles, since

Enhanced power factor and reduced Lorenz number in the Wiedemann--Franz law due to pudding mold type band structures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physics 121, 165101 (2017), 2016
We study the relationship between the shape of the electronic band structure and the thermoelectric properties. In order to study the band shape dependence of the thermoelectric properties generally, we first adopt models with band structures having the dispersion $E({\bf k}) \sim |{\bf k}|^n$ with $n = 2, 4$ and 6.

Leveraging current insights on IL‐10‐producing dendritic cells for developing effective immunotherapeutic approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In vivo IL‐10 produced by tissue‐resident tolDC is involved in maintaining/inducing tolerance. Depending on the agent used for ex vivo tolDC generation, cells acquire common features but prime T cells towards anergy, FOXP3+ Tregs, or Tr1 cells according to the levels of IL‐10 produced. Ex vivo‐induced tolDC were administered to patients to re‐establish/
