3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Second coefficient of viscosity in air [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Acoustic attenuation measurements in air were analyzed in order to estimate the second coefficient of viscosity. Data over a temperature range of 11 C to 50 C and at relative humidities between 6 percent and 91 percent were used.

Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Variational semi-blind sparse deconvolution with orthogonal kernel bases and its application to MRFM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present a variational Bayesian method of joint image reconstruction and point spread function (PSF) estimation when the PSF of the imaging device is only partially known.

Exploitation of Acoustic Cavitation-Induced Microstreaming to Enhance Molecular Transport

open access: yesJournal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2014
Ultrasound (US) exposure of soft tissues, such as the skin, has been shown to increase permeability, enhancing the passage of drug molecules via passive processes such as diffusion. However, US regimes have not been exploited to enhance active convective transport of drug molecules from a donor layer, such as a gel, into another medium.

Covalent Organic Frameworks for Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction: Metal Integration Principles, Strategies and Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with metals have been recognized as versatile platforms for photocatalytic CO2 reduction (CO2PRR). Herein, an overview of metal integration strategies for COFs is systematically summarized. Regulatory mechanisms and structure–activity relationships between metal integration and COF‐based CO2PRR are emphasized.

Acoustical properties of double porosity granular materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Granular materials have been conventionally used for acoustic treatment due to their sound absorptive and sound insulating properties. An emerging field is the study of the acoustical properties of multiscale porous materials.

Profiling of molecular interactions in real time using acoustic detection [PDF]

open access: yesBiosensors and Bioelectronics, 2007
Acoustic sensors that exploit resonating quartz crystals to directly detect the binding of an analyte to a receptor are finding increasing utility in the quantification of clinically relevant analytes. We have developed a novel acoustic detection technology, which we term resonant acoustic profiling (RAP).

Mechanoregulatory Effects of Cell‐Scale Microwells on Epithelial Cell Phenotype

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In small polycaprolactone microwells, A549 epithelial cells span well edges, in contrast to cells growing on flat substrates. Focal adhesion sites (yellow) concentrate at topographic boundaries, while cytoskeletal tension (magenta stress fibers) is transmitted to the nucleus (blue), reducing nuclear sphericity.
