A Complete HCN Survey of the Perseus Molecular Cloud

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We present a survey of the Perseus molecular cloud in the J = 1 → 0 transition of HCN, a widely used tracer of dense molecular gas. The survey was conducted with the CfA 1.2 m telescope, which at 89 GHz has a beamwidth of 11′ and a spectral resolution of

The formation of molecular clouds [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2001
In a recent paper, Elmegreen (2000) has made a cogent case, from an observational point of view, that the lifetimes of molecular clouds are comparable to their dynamical timescales. If so, this has important implications for the mechanisms by which molecular clouds form.

SUPERGIANT SHELLS AND MOLECULAR CLOUD FORMATION IN THE LARGE MAGELLANIC CLOUD [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the influence of large-scale stellar feedback on the formation of molecular clouds in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Examining the relationship between H i and 12CO(J = 1–0) in supergiant shells (SGSs), we find that the molecular ...

Unleashing the Power of Machine Learning in Nanomedicine Formulation Development

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A random forest machine learning model is able to make predictions on nanoparticle attributes of different nanomedicines (i.e. lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, or PLGA nanoparticles) based on microfluidic formulation parameters. Machine learning models are based on a database of nanoparticle formulations, and models are able to generate unique solutions

Fast Molecular Cloud Destruction Requires Fast Cloud Formation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2017
Abstract A large fraction of the gas in the Galaxy is cold, dense, and molecular. If all this gas collapsed under the influence of gravity and formed stars in a local free-fall time, the star formation rate in the Galaxy would exceed that observed by more than an order of magnitude. Other star-forming galaxies behave similarly.

Molecular outflows identified in the FCRAO CO survey of the Taurus Molecular Cloud [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Jets and outflows are an integral part of the star formation process. While there are many detailed studies of molecular outflows towards individual star-forming sites, few studies have surveyed an entire star-forming molecular cloud for this phenomenon.

Harmonizing the Pyrene and Ether Groups in Covalent Triazine Polymers for Highly Effective H2O2 Photosynthesis via One‐Step Two‐Electron Oxygen Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The pyrene and ether groups are incorporated into the covalent triazine polymer (CTP) structure. The synergistic effect of the two functional groups endows CTP with better electron transfer, light absorption, and oxygen activation properties. An impressive apparent quantum yield (13.2% @420 nm) and a remarkable solar‐to‐chemical conversion efficiency ...

3D MC. I. X-Ray Tomography Begins to Unravel the 3D Structure of a Molecular Cloud in our Galaxy’s Center

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Astronomers have used observations of the Galactic gas and dust via infrared, microwave, and radio to study molecular clouds in extreme environments such as the Galactic center.

Repeated output coupling of ultracold Feshbach molecules from a Cs BEC

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
We investigate magnetoassociation of ultracold Feshbach molecules from a Bose-Einstein condensate of Cs atoms and explore the spectrum of weakly bound molecular states close to the atomic threshold.

Warm Molecular Clouds [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1992
Warm molecular gas is important in a large range of astronomical contexts. We discuss here determinations of the temperature and mass of warm material in protostellar disks and cores, photon dominated regions, and molecular material shocked by protostellar outflows. We then compare these results to heating and cooling models.
