The Molecular Cloud Lifecycle. [PDF]
AbstractGiant molecular clouds (GMCs) and their stellar offspring are the building blocks of galaxies. The physical characteristics of GMCs and their evolution are tightly connected to galaxy evolution. The macroscopic properties of the interstellar medium propagate into the properties of GMCs condensing out of it, with correlations between e.g.

Molecular line signatures of cloud–cloud collisions [PDF]
ABSTRACT Collisions between interstellar gas clouds are potentially an important mechanism for triggering star formation. This is because they are able to rapidly generate large masses of dense gas. Observationally, cloud collisions are often identified in position–velocity (PV) space through bridging features between intensity peaks ...

Multi-line characterization of whole molecular clouds using stratified random sampling [PDF]
We have developed a new technique to characterize the multi-line emission from molecular clouds using statistical sampling. Our method uses available extinction maps to select a relatively small sample of cloud positions that cover the full range of ...

The interaction between a molecular cloud and an external agent (e.g., a supernova remnant, plasma jet, radiation, or another cloud) is a common phenomenon throughout the Universe and can significantly change the star formation rate within a galaxy. This

The LEGO Large Program: Constraining the Physics of Line Emission in Galaxy Observations [PDF]
The IRAM Large Program LEGO studies molecular clouds in the Milky Way to constrain the physics controlling molecular line emission in galaxies. This is done by imaging two dozen clouds with setups that provide continuous spectral coverage of about 85–115

Evolving Molecular Cloud Structure and the Column Density Probability Distribution Function [PDF]
The structure of molecular clouds can be characterized with the probability distribution function (PDF) of the mass surface density. In particular, the properties of the distribution can reveal the nature of the turbulence and star formation present ...

Giant Molecular Clouds in M31. I. Molecular Cloud Properties [PDF]
We present Berkeley Illinois Maryland Association (BIMA) millimeter interferometer observations of giant molecular clouds (GMCs) along a spiral arm in M31. The observations consist of a survey using the compact configuration of the interferometer and follow-up, higher-resolution observations on a subset of the detections in the survey.
