Molecular Electronics: Observation of Molecular Rectification

Science, 1993
The authors review some experiments in molecular rectification and their implication for commercial uses of molecular electronic devices. Two of the cases involve rectification by single molecules which consist of an electron donor on one side, an electron acceptor on the other side, and a bridge in between, coupled to electrodes.

Molecular electronics: general discussion

Faraday Discuss., 2014
Fred Wudl answered: Thank you for the question, Prof. Lemmer. Those days were about 20 or more years before the advent of “nano”, and the materials available were very tiny, brittle crystals. Prof. Qichun Zhang from NTU in Singapore has been relatively successful in obtaining nanoscale objects of TCNQ charge transfer salts.

Analytical Chemistry in Molecular Electronics

Annual Review of Analytical Chemistry, 2011
This review discusses the analytical characterization of molecular electronic devices and structures relevant thereto. In particular, we outline the methods for probing molecular junctions, which contain an ensemble of molecules between two contacts.

Molecular-scale electronics

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1999
A review of nonequilibrium electronic transport in molecules and molecular-scale synthetic systems is given. Although the basic concepts and mechanisms for electronic conduction in polymers have been discussed for some time, recently developed experimental techniques provide systems for their validation.

Microswitches in molecular electronics-from molecular conductors to molecular electronics

International Journal of Electronics, 1992
Abstract A survey is given on one of the proposed routes to molecular electronics: from conducting polymers via molecular triads to shift registered, cellular automata, and neuronal networks. Some results on photo-induced absorption, transient photoconductivity, and Langmuir-Blodgett films are presented as ‘flowers by the roadside’.

The mastered electron: molecular electronics and spintronics, molecular machines

2018
After a historical account of the evolution which led to the concept of Molecular Electronics, the “Hybrid Molecular Electronics” approach (that is, molecules connected to nanosized metallic electrodes) is discussed. The different types of transport (one-step, two-step with different forms of tunnelling) are described, including the case where the ...
