Structure and magnetism of ultrathin nickel-iron oxides grown on Ru(0001) by high-temperature oxygen-assisted molecular beam epitaxy

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
We demonstrate the preparation of ultrathin Fe-rich nickel ferrite (NFO) islands on a metal substrate. Their nucleation and growth are followed in situ by low-energy electron microscopy (LEEM). A comprehensive characterization is performed combining LEEM

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Laser-induced spin protection and switching in a specially designed magnetic dot: A theoretical investigation

open access: yes, 2011
Most laser-induced femtosecond magnetism investigations are done in magnetic thin films. Nanostructured magnetic dots, with their reduced dimensionality, present new opportunities for spin manipulation. Here we predict that if a magnetic dot has a dipole-

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Theoretical Study of Pentacoordinated Lanthanide Single-Ion Magnets via Ab Initio Electronic Structure Calculation

open access: yesMagnetochemistry
A theoretical study, based on ab initio electronic structure calculation, is performed in a group of 16 pentacoordinate Dy-SIMs. Theoretical results provide a reasonable explanation of the observed SMM performance based on a concise criterion, i.e., the ...

Mapping the Magnetic Anisotropy inside a Ni4 Cubane Spin Cluster Using Polarized Neutron Diffraction

open access: yesMagnetochemistry, 2017
In this publication, we report on the study of the magnetic anisotropy of the cubane type tetranuclear cluster of Ni(II), [Ni4(L)4(MeOH)4] (H2L = salicylidene-2-ethanolamine; MeOH = methanol), by the means of angular-resolved magnetometry and polarized ...

Electronic Control of Spin Alignment in pi-Conjugated Molecular Magnets

open access: yes, 2003
Intramolecular spin alignment in pi-conjugated molecules is studied theoretically in a model of a Peierls-Hubbard chain coupled with two localized spins. By means of the exact diagonalization technique, we demonstrate that a spin singlet (S=0) to quartet

Tumor and germline testing with next generation sequencing in epithelial ovarian cancer: a prospective paired comparison using an 18‐gene panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Genetic testing in epithelial ovarian cancer includes both germline and tumor‐testing. This approach often duplicates resources. The current prospective study assessed the feasibility of tumor‐first multigene testing by comparing tumor tissue with germline testing of peripheral blood using an 18‐gene NGS panel in 106 patients.

Magnetic molecules created by hydrogenation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

open access: yes, 2009
Present routes to produce magnetic organic-based materials adopt a common strategy: the use of magnetic species (atoms, polyradicals, etc.) as building blocks.

Molecular magnets

open access: yesContemporary Physics, 2007
Magnetic materials in which the fundamental building block is molecular have attracted a great deal of interest because they capitalize on the flexibility inherent in carbon chemistry. Some compounds incorporating chemically stable free radicals are purely organic and show long-range magnetic order at very low temperatures, but the most useful ...
