pH-Controlled isomerization kinetics of ortho-disubstituted benzamidines: E/Z isomerism and axial chirality

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry
pH-Responsive molecular switches and motors are a class of organic molecules whose three-dimensional structure can be changed by acid–base stimuli. To date, pH-responsive molecular switches have been developed using various functional groups, but further

Reset and switch protocols at Landauer limit in a graphene buckled ribbon

open access: yes, 2015
Heat produced during a reset operation is meant to show a fundamental bound known as Landauer limit, while simple switch operations have an expected minimum amount of produced heat equal to zero.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Conformational and Tautomeric Control by Supramolecular Approach in Ureido-N-iso-propyl,N’-4-(3-pyridin-2-one)pyrimidine

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Ureido-N-iso-propyl,N’-4-(3-pyridin-2-one)pyrimidine (1) and its 2-methoxy pyridine derivative (1Me) has been designed and prepared. The conformational equilibrium in urea moiety and tautomerism in the pyrimidine part have been investigated by ...

Molecular switch controlled by pulsed bias voltages

open access: yes, 2009
It was observed in recent experiments that the current-voltage characteristics (IV) of BPDN-DT (bipyridyl- dinitro- oligophenylene- ethynylene- dithiol) can be switched in a very controlled manner between "on" and "off" traces by applying a pulse in a ...

Structural diversity of neuronal calcium sensor proteins and insights for activation of retinal guanylyl cyclase by GCAP1. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Neuronal calcium sensor (NCS) proteins, a sub-branch of the calmodulin superfamily, are expressed in the brain and retina where they transduce calcium signals and are genetically linked to degenerative diseases.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
