The Motility of Mollicutes [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2003
Recent experiments show that the conformation of filament proteins play a role in the motility and morphology of many different types of bacteria. Conformational changes in the protein subunits may produce forces to drive propulsion and cell division. Here we present a molecular mechanism by which these forces can drive cell motion.

Risk factors associated with intramammary colonization with Mollicutes in dairy cattle from Southeast Brazil

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2021
: Bacteria of Mollicutes Class are associated with intramammary infection and decrease in milk production. This study investigated the occurrence of Mollicutes and elucidated their risk factors in dairy herds from Southeast Brazil. For this, milk samples

Evaluation of the biocontrol activity of Frateuria defendens-derived metabolites against mollicutes

open access: yesPlant Signaling & Behavior, 2022
Frateuria defendens is a candidate biocontrol agent that has been shown to reduce phytoplasma-related disease symptoms in grapevines and periwinkle plants. While a crude filtrate prepared from F.

Evidence for the Rapid and Divergent Evolution of Mycoplasmas: Structural and Phylogenetic Analysis of Enolases

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2022
Mycoplasmas are a group of prokaryotes without cell walls that have evolved through several rounds of degenerative evolution. With a low cell DNA G + C content and definitively long genetic lineages, mycoplasmas are thought to be in a state of rapid ...

A Bioguided Approach for the Screening of Antibacterial Compounds Isolated From the Hydroalcoholic Extract of the Native Brazilian Bee’s Propolis Using Mollicutes as a Model

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Nature is a vast source of medicinal substances, including propolis, which has been extensively investigated. Propolis is a resinous substance produced by bees from the exudates of plants that they collect and modify in their jaws; it is a rich and ...

Horizontal Gene Transfers in Mycoplasmas (Mollicutes) [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology, 2018
The class Mollicutes (trivial name "mycoplasma") is composed of wall-less bacteria with reduced genomes whose evolution was long thought to be only driven by gene losses. Recent evidences of massive horizontal gene transfer (HGT) within and across species provided a new frame to understand the successful adaptation of these minimal bacteria to a broad ...

Mycoplasma genitalium Biofilms Contain Poly-GlcNAc and Contribute to Antibiotic Resistance

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Mycoplasma genitalium is an important etiologic agent of non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU), known for chronicity and multidrug resistance, in which biofilms may play an integral role.

Differential Susceptibility of Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma Species to Compound-Enhanced Copper Toxicity

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
RationaleMycoplasmas represent important etiologic agents of many human diseases. Due to increasing antimicrobial resistance and slow rate of novel discovery, unconventional methods of drug discovery are necessary.
