Selective sorption of dissolved organic carbon compounds by temperate soils. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Physico-chemical sorption onto soil minerals is one of the major processes of dissolved organic carbon (OC) stabilization in deeper soils. The interaction of DOC on soil solids is related to the reactivity of soil minerals, the chemistry of ...

High‐Resolution Soil Total Phosphorus Mapping for the Conterminous USA Using Machine Learning
Abstract Accurate estimates of soil total phosphorus (TP) concentrations are essential for sustainable nutrient management, food security, and water quality protection. This study predicts and maps the spatial distribution of TP in the top 5 cm and C horizon of soils across the conterminous USA (CONUS) using data from the Geochemical and Mineralogical ...

Reconstructing Mollisol Formation Processes Through Quantified Pedoturbation
AbstractMollisols are highly fertile soils and function as significant carbon reservoirs. However, determining their ages and formation processes is challenging due to extensive pedoturbation, which undermines conventional dating methods. Here, we employed luminescence, a light‐sensitive property of minerals widely used in geological dating, to ...

Applying organic fertilisers improves soil health and plant growth by improving the soil organic matter, soil structure, nutrient uptake and water‐holding capacity. Small‐plot stationary field experiments on four different soils in Central Europe evaluate the long‐term effect of organic amendments and/or mineral fertilisers on the soil organic matter ...

Depth‐Dependence Changes in Soil Stoichiometry in China's Croplands Over the Past Four Decades
This study reveals depth‐dependent changes in soil C:N:P ratios across Chinese croplands over four decades. Changes in stoichiometry vary markedly between topsoil and subsoil, with initial soil C:N:P ratios playing a key role in determining their trajectories.

Abstract Quantifying soil organic carbon (SOC) and total soil nitrogen (TSN) at a cumulative depth of 0–30 cm under different land use and management scenarios remains a priority, particularly in the southeastern United States, where soil erosion can be intense with high rainfall and long history of intensive soil disturbance.
