Evolution and diversity of alpha-carbonic anhydrases in the mantle of the Mediterranean mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The α-carbonic anhydrases (α-CAs) are a large and ancient group of metazoan-specific enzymes. They generate bicarbonate from metabolic carbon dioxide and through calcium carbonate crystal formation play a key role in the regulation of mineralized ...

Biogeography of intertidal invertebrates is influenced by latitude along the west coast of Australia

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Along the west coast of Australia, intertidal rock platforms support high invertebrate diversities that provide vital ecosystem services, yet patterns in diversity are not well understood. Here, we document and examine the invertebrate assemblages on intertidal rock platforms in Western Australia and delineate ecoregions according to assemblage ...

Mollusca

open access: yes
Abstract Mollusca is a large and diverse phylum with many familiar representatives, from snails and clams to octopuses and squid, as well as several less-familiar representatives, such as chitons and aplacophorans. Despite this diversity in body plans, we can reconstruct a generalized mollusk and see how all these body plans are ...

Společenstva vodních měkkýšů řeky Oravy [PDF]

open access: yesMalacologica Bohemoslovaca
We analyse the diversity of aquatic molluscs of the river Orava in north-western Slovakia. The river Orava has been part of the protected area “Rieka Orava” since 1997 and included in NATURA 2000 as a Site of Community Importance since 2004. Although the

Molecular Palaeontology Prospects From Exceptionally Preserved Eocene Brackish‐Water Bivalve Batissa sitakaraensis (Venerida: Corbiculidae) From Hokkaido, Japan

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
This study reports the exceptional preservation of the Eocene freshwater bivalve Batissa sitakaraensis from Hokkaido, Japan. Multimodal analyses reveal that both the aragonitic shell mineralogy and the delicate organic periostracum retain their original structural and chemical characteristics after millions of years.

A comparison of mitochondrial genomes from five species in three genera suggests polyphyly in the subfamily Achatinellinae (Gastropoda: Pulmonata: Stylommatophora: Achatinellidae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2018
We compare the complete mitochondrial genomes of Achatinella fulgens, A. mustelina, A. sowerbyana, Partulina redfieldi, and Perdicella helena, five species of Hawaiian tree snails across three genera.

Diversity of echinostomes (Digenea: Echinostomatidae) in their snail hosts at high latitudes

open access: yesParasite, 2021
The biodiversity of freshwater ecosystems globally still leaves much to be discovered, not least in the trematode parasite fauna they support. Echinostome trematode parasites have complex, multiple-host life-cycles, often involving migratory bird ...
