Radiation Effects in Chloride Molten Salt Compositions

MRS Online Proceedings Library, 1999
Radiation effects on the composition of NaCl (70 mole %) and PbC12 (30 mole %) salts irradiated by a high energy accelerator proton beam were analyzed. In the temperature interval from ~50 to ~1200 °C this composition can be considered as radiation-resistant material, that can be recommended for use as target material for accelerator-driven ...

The conductivity of the binary molten salt system aluminium chloride/sodium chloride

Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry, 1971
Abstract The conductivity (κ) has been determined for the binary molten salt system aluminium chloride/sodium chloride over the range of composition 15–30 wt% of sodium chloride and over the range of temperatures 155–195°C. A three-dimensional empirical equation has been derived from the observed data and shows that over the ranges stated k depends ...

Chemistry of Solvated Electrons in Molten Alkali Chloride Salts

The Journal of Physical Chemistry C, 2018
We use ab initio molecular dynamics to study the electronic structure and the chemistry of the solvated electrons created when alkali atoms are dissolved in alkali chloride molten salt. We find that solvated electrons pair up to form a two-electron species.

Synthesis of actinide chlorides for molten salt preparation

12th International Conference of Molten Slags, Fluxes and Salts (MOLTEN 2024) Proceedings
Molten salt reactor (MSR) is a promising advanced reactor system aiming to the transmutation of minor actinides such as americium in order to reduce the inventory of ultimate nuclear waste. The fuel is a molten salt in which actinides are homogeneously dissolved in the liquid phase.

The Chemical Stability of MoS2 in Chloride Eutectic Molten Salt

2020
Molten salt electrolysis is used for the preparation of metal with high purity in a one-step procedure. When dealing with metal sulfides, a modified FFC (replacing oxides with sulfides) process shall prevent the emission of sulfur oxides if a protective atmosphere is provided.

Electrochemical studies of titanium in fluoride-chloride molten salts

Journal of Applied Electrochemistry, 1988
The interaction between titanium and Ti4+ ions (K2TiF6), the electroreduction reaction of Ti4+ ions and the anodic reaction of Ti in KCl−NaCl−KF melts with K2TiF6 at 973 K were studied by means of electrochemical and physical measurements.

Thermophysical property characterization of binary chloride salts for molten salt reactors

Thermophysical properties are of critical importance to the successful demonstration of a molten salt reactor (MSR) as they have the most impact on the design, hydraulic function and neutronic behavior. However, there are limited data regarding complex, multicomponent salt systems and no standardized methodologies.
