Lanthanides extraction processes in molten fluoride media. Application to nuclear spent fuel reprocessing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper describes four techniques of extraction of lanthanides elements (Ln) from molten salts in the general frame of reprocessing nuclear wastes; One of them is chemical: the precipitation of Ln ions in insoluble compounds (oxides or oxifluorides);

Enhancing high-temperature chloride molten salts corrosion resistance of 310S steel with Si-added Ni–Al coating

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Ni–Al based coating is one of the common high temperature and corrosion resistant protective coatings. In the present paper, the effect of Si content on the formation of Al2O3 layer and the corrosion resistance of Ni–Al coating to chloride molten salt ...

Direct suspension electrolysis of alumina in chloride molten salt.

open access: yesJournal of Japan Institute of Light Metals, 1985
Direct suspension electrolysis of alumina in CaCl2-BaCl2 molten salt was performed as a new process for aluminum production in which alumina was directly reduced with calcium generated through electrolysis of the molten salt. The current efficiency of aluminum production in the molten salt at 1223K increases with an increase of CaCl2 content up to 80%.

Preparation of Al2O3-SiC composite powders in the presence of Fe-catalyst via molten-salt-assisted method [PDF]

open access: yesProcessing and Application of Ceramics
Alumina-silicon carbide (Al2O3-SiC) composite powders were synthesized by molten salt method utilizing silicon dioxide (SiO2), carbon black (C) and aluminium (Al) powders as the starting materials, and sodium chloride (NaCl) and potassium chloride (KCl ...

A Possible Regenerative, Molten-Salt, Thermoelectric Fuel Cell [PDF]

open access: yes
Molten or fused salts have been evaluated as possible thermoelectric materials because of the relatively good values of their figures of merit, their chemical stability, their long liquid range, and their ability to operate in conjunction with a nuclear ...

Breed-and-burn fuel cycle in molten salt reactors

open access: yesEPJ Nuclear Sciences & Technologies, 2019
The operation of a reactor on an open but self-sustainable cycle without actinide separation is known as breed-and-burn. It has mostly been envisioned for use in solid-fueled fast-spectrum reactors such as sodium-cooled fast reactors.

Apollo-Soyuz pamphlet no. 8: Zero-g technology [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
The behavior of liquids in zero gravity environments is discussed with emphasis on foams, wetting, and wicks. A multipurpose electric furnace (MA-010) for the high temperature processing of metals and salts in zero-g is described.
