Dynamic simulation of steam generation system in solar tower power plant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Concentrated solar power (CSP) plant with thermal energy storage can be operated as a peak load regulation plant. The steam generation system (SGS) is the central hub between the heat transfer fluid and the working fluid, of which the dynamic ...

A Thermodynamic 3D Model for the Simulation of Diffusion‐Controlled Alloying Processes in Heterogeneous Material Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical model resulting from irreversible thermodynamics for describing transport processes is introduced, focusing on thermodynamic activity gradients as the actual driving force for diffusion. Implemented in CUDA C++ and using CalPhaD methods for determining the necessary activity data, the model accurately simulates interdiffusion in aluminum ...

Experimental Study on Temperature Distribution and Heat Losses of a Molten Salt Heat Storage Tank

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Two-tank molten salt heat storage systems are considered to be the most mature thermal storage technology in solar thermal power plants. As the key part of the system, the thermal performance of molten salt tanks is of great importance.

A novel insulation design for high-temperature pipe penetrating the walls of molten salt reactor cavity

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2022
The design of molten salt reactor has high-temperature pipes penetrating the walls of reactor cavity, the working temperature of which is about 530 K higher than the ordinary concrete wall. The insulation of high-temperature pipes is important to prevent

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...

Corrosion and Process Analysis of a Preoxidized MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode in Laboratory‐Scale Na‐Cryolite Molten Salt Electrolysis of Aluminum at 1000°C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Molten chloride salt technology for next-generation CSP plants: Compatibility of Fe-based alloys with purified molten MgCl2-KCl-NaCl salt at 700 °C

open access: yesApplied Energy, 2022
Molten chlorides, such as MgCl 2 -KCl-NaCl, are promising advanced high-temperature (up to 800 °C) thermal energy storage (TES) materials in next-generation concentrating solar power (CSP) plants.

Raman Spectroscopic Identification of Oxide Phases in a Corroded MgO–Steel Composite Anode Used in Aluminum Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐Raman spectroscopy is applied to characterize corrosion products in a recycled‐based MgO–316L steel composite anode after molten salt electrolysis. A depth‐dependent Fe–O/Fe–Al–O layer sequence of magnetite, hercynite, and an Al‐doped magnetite transition zone is identified.
