Aluminium corrosion in room temperature molten salt
Journal of Power Sources, 2004Aluminium corrosion in a room temperature molten salt is studied to validate the use of a new kind of electrolyte in a lithium battery. Two solvents have been compared, the room temperature molten salt ethyl-methyl-imidazolium bis(trifluoromethane-sulfonyl)imide (EMI-TFSI), and the liquid organic solvent EC/DMC containing the lithium salt LiTFSI. After

Corrosion Pitting of SiC by Molten Salts
Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 1986The corrosion of SiC by thin films of Na2CO3 and Na2SO4 at 1000 C is characterized by a severe pitting attack of the SiC substrate. A range of different Si and SiC substrates were examined to isolate the factors critical to pitting. Two types of pitting attack are identified: attack at structural discontinuities and a crater-like attack.

Electrochemistry of molten salt corrosion
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1991Abstract Thermodynamics and electrochemistry are of great importance in understanding and controlling corrosion. Molten salt corrosion has been mainly studied by the surface observation and gravimetric method. Electrochemical techniques have also been applied to this system in order to obtain information on the selection of materials and estimation ...

Corrosion in Molten Nitrate-Nitrite Salts
JOM, 1985A series of mass loss corrosion rate laboratory experiments were conducted in molten nitrate-nitrite salts at 950–1300°F (510–705°C). Both nickel and iron alloys were tested. Nickel alloys with 15–20% chromium contents performed the best, while iron alloys, with low or no nickel exhibited poor corrosion resistance at high temperatures.

Corrosion in Molten Salts: An Annotated Bibliography
Corrosion, 1979The corrosion and containment properties of molten salts are reported as an annotated bibliography, in tabular form. The tables are arranged by subject area and provide ready access to important research publications and review articles. Data on corrosion rates are given for some selected cases. Indexes to corrosion studies by molten salt and by metal,

Electrochemical Corrosion Studies in Molten Chloride Salts
Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 2022This study investigates corrosion of Fe–(Cr)–Ni model alloys in eutectic molten chloride salt mixtures that broadly simulate the heat transfer circuits of molten salt cooled nuclear reactors. The primary focus is impurity-driven corrosion and selective dissolution of electrochemically reactive element(s) (dealloying), which are ...

Molten Salt Corrosion of SiC Fibers
ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2016The Na2SO4-assisted hot corrosion resistance of Hi-Nicalon, Hi-Nicalon S, Sylramic and Sylramic iBN SiC fibers was characterized as a function of time and temperature. Na2SO4-loaded fibers were exposed in a tube furnace with 0.1% SO2/O2 flowing gas for times between 45 minutes and 24 hours, at temperatures between 900 and 1100C.
