Electrolysis Synthesis of Carbides and Carbon Dioxide Capture in Molten Salts

Small, 2023
AbstractThe application of carbides in catalysis, batteries, aerospace fields, etc. has been continuously expanded and deepened, which is attributed to the diversified physicochemical properties of carbides via a tune‐up of their morphology, composition, and microstructure.

Studies on anode effect in molten salts electrolysis

Electrochimica Acta, 1987
Abstract In this paper the anode effect in molten salts electrolysis was studied. We reported the experimental results of the potential voltammogram and cathodic oscillogram studies, as well as the observative results of voltage wave with high frequency and the jet action from the anode during the anode effect. These are very interesting studies.

Synthesis of Calcium Hexaboride by Electrolysis of Molten Salt

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B, 2019
Formation of calcium hexaboride by means of electrodeposition of boron oxide in molten CaCl2 with additives of CaO and B2O3 was analyzed. It was shown that the hexaboride powder can be synthesized by electrolysis with a current output of more than 70 pct and the process can be readily carried out continuously.

A Molten Salt Electrolysis Procedure to Form Al-Sc Alloys

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2017
Recently, alloys such as Al-Sc and Al-Mg-Sc came to the forefront due to the reinforcement effect of scandium on the properties of aluminum such as mechanical strength, thermal stability, resistance to recrystallization, resistance to intergranular fracture and corrosion [1]. The main scandium source for these

Recycling Kraft Pulping Chemicals with Molten Salt Electrolysis

Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 2002
Molten salt mixtures containing sodium carbonate, sodium sulfide, and sodium sulfate have been electrolyzed to generate sodium oxide and sodium sulfide while removing carbon from the system in the form of gas and maintaining a sulfur balance in the melt.

Evolution of Molten Salt Electrolysis in Titanium Production Process

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2020
The Titanium industry uses the Kroll process where titanium sponge is produced from the reduction of titanium tetrachloride by magnesium metal. The byproduct of this redox reaction is anhydrous molten magnesium chloride which must be reduced back to magnesium metal to complete the cycle.

Electrolysis of Alumina in a Molten Salt at 760°C

2016
The electrolysis of alumina at a current density of 0.9 A/cm2 in a predominantly chloride electrolyte at 760°C has been demonstrated on bench scale. A high surface area anode was used to achieve this result.
