Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Moment-preserving curve detection

open access: yes, 2009
[[abstract]]A novel method for curve detection based on the moment-preserving principle is proposed. The method can be used to estimate curve locations and widths to subpixel accuracy.

The Declining Rotation Curve of NGC 157

open access: yes, 1997
We have found strong evidence for an abrupt decline in the HI rotation curve of the isolated spiral galaxy NGC 157. Various mass models to account for this, and the implications for the dark matter content of NGC 157, are discussed.

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Study on the Failure Mode and Bearing Capacity of Unreinforced Steel Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Segment Joints

open access: yesBuildings
Currently, unreinforced steel fiber-reinforced concrete (USFRC) has not been widely adopted in underground engineering within China. However, extensive research has demonstrated that incorporating steel fibers can effectively enhance the mechanical ...

Experiment on Behavior of a New Connector Used in Bamboo (Timber) Frame Structure under Cyclic Loading

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
Connection is an important part of the bamboo and timber structure, and it directly influences the overall structural performance and safety. Based on a comprehensive analysis of the mechanical performance of several wood connections, a new connector for

The Holditch-Type Theorem for the Polar Moment of Inertia of the Orbit Curve in the Generalized Complex Plane

open access: yes, 2016
In this study, we first calculate the polar moment of inertia of orbit curves under one-parameter planar motion in the generalized complex plane and then give the Holditch-type theorem for : When the fixed points and on the moving plane trace the same ...

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

The Imprint of Spiral Arms on the Galactic Rotation Curve

open access: yes, 2019
We discuss a model for the Milky Way obtained by fitting the observed terminal velocities with the radial acceleration relation. The resulting stellar surface density profile departs from a smooth exponential disk, having bumps and wiggles that ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.
