Multivariate Conversion of Moment Magnitude for Small‐to‐Moderate‐Magnitude Earthquakes in Iran
Earthquake Spectra, 2018Homogeneous estimates of moment magnitude ( M ) for small‐to‐moderate‐magnitude (SMM) earthquakes are important to assess regional ground motion compared to global models. However, an estimate of M was available for only 6% of the shallow crustal ...

Magnitude conversion to unified moment magnitude using orthogonal regression relation
Journal of Asian Earth Sciences, 2012Abstract Homogenization of earthquake catalog being a pre-requisite for seismic hazard assessment requires region based magnitude conversion relationships. Linear Standard Regression (SR) relations fail when both the magnitudes have measurement errors.

Unbiased Estimation of Moment Magnitude from Body- and Surface-Wave Magnitudes
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2014Abstract For regression of variables having measurement errors, general orthogonal regression (GOR) is the most appropriate statistical procedure that yields a linear relation between the true values of the dependent ( y t ) and independent ( x t ) variables.

Moment Magnitude-Local Magnitude Calibration for Earthquakes in Western Canada
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2005Local magnitude ( M L ) is the primary magnitude scale calculated for western Canada by the Geological Survey of Canada (gsc). Moment magnitude ( M w ), derived from moment tensor analysis, provides a more robust estimate of the magnitude of earthquakes but is more demanding to calculate.

The most common catalog magnitude for eastern North America is the Nuttli magnitude (Nuttli, 1973), referred to as MN or MbLg . The Nuttli magnitude is based on the amplitude of the Lg phase (multiply reflected and refracted shear waves). MN is quickly and easily determined from the time series, making it convenient for routine catalog purposes.

On the magnitude of the local moment in the Anderson model
Solid State Communications, 1977Abstract Consideration of the self-consistent coupling between transverse spin fluctuations and charge fluctuations at the impurity provides an understanding of the magnetic atom's susceptibility law which reduces to that appropriate for a spin one half only in the symmetric configuration at low temperatures.

A SEISMIC MOMENT MAGNITUDE SCALE
Theaimofobtaininga single scale for earthquake magnitudes has led many studies in the past to either develop relationships among various existing scales or develop an altogether new scale to represent a wide range of magnitudes on a single scale.Ranjit DAS Das +4 more

Development of a Moment Magnitude Relation for Albania
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2002The Albanian Seismological Network (ASN) has been operating 13 seismological stations since 1976. All these stations are equipped with short-period seismographs and analog-type drum recorders. The well-known Richter9s formula modified for our conditions has been used to report local magnitude.

New Zealand is one of the more seismically active countries in the world, with more than 15,000 earthquakes located each year. Routine moment tensor analysis of regional seismic data for earthquakes with moment magnitude M w>∼3.5–4.0 has recently been implemented in New Zealand. Nearly 330 regional moment tensor (RMT) solutions have been calculated for

Empirical Calibration of Local Magnitude Data Sets Versus Moment Magnitude in Italy
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2013Using general orthogonal regressions (GORs), we calibrated local magnitudes, estimated in Italy using various methods in different periods of time from 1981 to 2010, with a set of homogeneous moment magnitudes ( M w). Magnitude uncertainties, necessary for the application of GOR methods, are inferred by a trial‐and‐error procedure based on a priori ...
