Moment of Inertia

2017
Designing spinning or rotating machines can be complex and generally requires a bit of calculus. However, we can look at some simplified cases and design a few pieces that can help you analyze the motion of spinning—or in the case of this chapter, rolling—objects.

Moments of Inertia

1977
In considering the kinetics of a rigid body we shall meet the quantity Σ(δm)r2 where δm is the mass of some particle at a perpendicular distance r from a particular axis. The summation symbol implies the addition of all the products indicated over the complete rigid body, and is termed the moment of inertia I with respect to the particular axis, which ...

Moment of Inertia Experiment

American Journal of Physics, 1951
This paper describes a laboratory experiment for determining moment of inertia in which the emphasis is on (1) a relatively high degree of accuracy, (2) useful application of several of the important principles of mechanics, and (3) improved instrumentation to attain the desired accuracy and still give time in the laboratory period for the student to ...

Segmental Moment of Inertia Scaling Procedures

Research Quarterly. American Alliance for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, 1976
Abstract The segmental moment of inertia values obtained from 7 of the 8 cadavers reported by Dempster were scaled to a common height and weight. The scaled values for each segment for the 7 cadavers were averaged. An equation is given for rescaling the Dempster average values for use with any individual in proportion to their height and weight.

Note on Electromagnetic Moment of Inertia

American Journal of Physics, 1951
It is shown that the angular momentum of the stationary electromagnetic field surrounding a classical charged particle may be considered to be localized in the charge distribution. When the magnetic field is considered to be due to rotation of the charge, there exists a moment of inertia tensor relating the angular momentum of the field and the energy ...
