The growth of children??s moment of inertia
Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 1986As children grow, their moments of inertia increase. The magnitude and timing of these changes can affect the rotations of the body. The present study evaluated inter-individual differences in the transverse centroidal moment of inertia for 12 boys between 5 and 16 yr, using intra-individual data from three successive years.

13·1 . If the mass of every element of a body or particle of a system be multiplied by the square of its distance from an axis, the sum of the products is called the Moment of Inertia of the body or system about that axis. Thus if m denotes the mass of an element or particle and r denotes its distance from the axis, the moment of inertia is Σ mr

This paper describes a laboratory experiment for determining moment of inertia in which the emphasis is on (1) a relatively high degree of accuracy, (2) useful application of several of the important principles of mechanics, and (3) improved instrumentation to attain the desired accuracy and still give time in the laboratory period for the student to ...

Moment of Inertia by Differentiation
The Physics Teacher, 2015The calculation of the moment of inertia of an extended body, as presented in standard introductory-level textbooks, involves the evaluation of a definite integral—an operation often not fully mastered by beginners, let alone the conceptual difficulties it presents, even to the advanced student, in understanding and setting up the integral in the first

A formula proposed by the author for the calculation of the moment of inertia of a nuclear system is discussed. A simple calculation using the model of a deformed oscillator well for the mean nuclear potential gives the result MΣZ2 for a prolate distribution, approximately half the rigid moment; it is suggested that this result incorporates most of the

The Moment of Inertia of 78Sr*
1988Extreme prolate deformations (β2≥0.35) have been observed1–4 in the neutron deficient strontium isotopes. These nuclei are among the most deformed in the mass 80 region. Recently, detailed spectroscopic work has been completed on 79–81Sr (ref. 2–4). Theoretical work predicting changes in deformations and collectivity as a function of neutron number has

12:006800The properties of nuclear matter have been determined by the solution of the nuclear many-body problem, using the reaction matrix theory of Brueckner. The nonlinear integral equations characteristic of the theory have been solved with the aid of the fast electronic computer IBM 704.
